Rainy Island Car Camping – Ferrying My DIY Cabin

Hello, this is Shido. Mid-October 2025 — Sado Island, Japan Today I’m traveling again with my mini truck. Carrying the DIY cabin on the bed. This is my first journey to an island. I plan to stay here for a week. I came to a fishing spot recommended by a kind tackle shop owner. I brought a small fishing rod. Food will be sourced locally. Fishing leisurely from the veranda has been my dream since building this cabin. Finally, the time has come. I can faintly see the mainland on the horizon. One day earlier It was my first time ferrying the cabin, so I was nervous. Even with the cabin loaded, it’s treated as a regular kei car on the ferry. I boarded safely. Trucks and campers were placed toward the stern. I suppose it’s to balance the ship’s center of gravity. During the voyage, the car deck is off-limits, so I moved to the passenger seats. This brown one is a baby black-tailed gull. From Niigata Port to Sado Island, it’s a two-and-a-half-hour trip. The white one is an adult gull. It was a big ship, but it rocked quite a bit offshore. Sado, the golden island floating in the Sea of Japan. It once flourished as one of the world’s great gold producers. Its area is larger than the central Tokyo wards, the biggest island in the Sea of Japan. Population: just under 50,000. Sado is connected to Niigata by two ferry routes. Though remote, the island is large, so ferries are big and frequent. We’re about to land. I caught my first aji (horse mackerel). With advice from locals, I even caught a rockfish with a lure. The rain and wind grew stronger, so I packed up. Heavy rain continues. Fishing seems impossible today. Heading to the campsite. Waves crash violently against the shore. I move according to the forecast to avoid strong winds. I saw many mini trucks along the way. They’re widely used on the island too. That’s a huge rocky mountain. Here the wind is relatively calm. That big rocky mountain catches my eye. I’ll go see it once the rain stops. The person who taught me fishing kindly gave me fresh rice from Sado. I’ve heard Sado rice is delicious, so I’m excited to try it. This new ventilator is powerful enough to refresh the air without opening windows. Cooking the horse mackerel I caught for the first time. Cleaning small fish was tricky, but I managed. Garlic. Green onion. Shiso leaves. Ginger. Miso. Mix them all finely together. Namerou rice bowl, ready to eat. Miso soup. Already a luxurious dinner, but I had also bought crab. I stopped by a direct crab market. Fresh and cheap. Sake, rice, and fish — all from Sado. A truly lavish meal. So delicious. Especially the fresh rice — it was amazing. Tonight I’ll sleep peacefully. It was warm when I departed, but now the season is shifting and it’s cold. I bought a blanket at a local shop in Sado. Good night. A refreshing morning. Later I’ll visit that rocky mountain I was curious about. Breakfast will be a hot pot using yesterday’s crab. Preparing the crab. These gills are not edible. The crab broth warms my whole body. Delicious. Heading toward the rocky mountain. Steep stairs lead up the mountain. I wonder how far they go. Walking along a sheer cliff. The path led to this shrine. Looking down from the cliff was scarier on the way back. Once again, I leave a drawing as a memory of the journey. Fishing from the porch, and climbing the rocky mountain. So many impressive scenes, I couldn’t decide what to draw. I have wonderful news to share. Recently, this channel reached the 100,000 subscribers milestone! Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me. I’m planning a special project to celebrate. And when the Silver Play Button arrives, I’d love to show it to you. I’ll post a commemorative video, so please look forward to it. Thank you for all the congratulatory comments. I drew the car ferry I saw at the port. I’m excited to ride the ferry again on the way back. My island journey continues. The trip will be shared in three parts. I also visited the gold mine, now a World Heritage site. Please subscribe and wait for the next video. Thank you for watching until the end. Your comments and likes mean so much to me. See you again next time.
