Steve Clarke’s side have yet to announce their plans for the expected four games ahead of their first World Cup tournament in 28 years next summer.

They will have two games in March in the next international window and two before the World Cup opener against Haiti next June.

And the first friendly fixture seems set to be against Japan, who were the very first team to qualify for the World Cup.

They are playing England at Wembley on March 31 and Moriyasu seemed to confirm reports in Japan that the second game will be against the Scots.

He said: “In addition to playing in England, we will also play against a country who are very close to them.

“I have spent the past week touring the USA to look at bases before the World Cup and preparations are ongoing.”

It would be Japan’s first ever visit to Hampden and they are likely to include Celtic duo Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate in their squad.

Scotland have failed to beat Japan in three meetings, with two goalless draws and a 2-0 defeat in Yokohama in 2009.

Japan play the Netherlands and another European team – either Ukraine, Sweden, Poland or Albania in the World Cup and are keen to test themselves against similar opponents.
