Economy ministry plans $642m in support for cutting-edge semiconductor facility

TOKYO — A semiconductor prototyping center will start operations in fiscal 2029 in the Japan’s northernmost main island of Hokkaido, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced Friday, part of an effort to boost the country’s competitiveness in chipmaking.
