While the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast won’t be on this week due to The Game Awards happening, we’re still going to cover the news leading up to, during, and after the event, and for me, that means talking about how well the Nintendo Switch 2 continues to do in Japan! The country has made it clear that they’re “all in” on the Switch 2, and continues to prove it every week. In the latest Famitsu numbers, which cover the first full week of December, it was revealed that the console sold a whopping 200,000 units during the period!
For comparison, the No.2 entry on the list was the Switch OLED with 24,000 units. That means that the Switch had its best week in Japan since the system’s launch back in June. That alone would be worthy of talking about, but then, when you look at the lifetime sales numbers, you’ll see that the Nintendo Switch 2 has crossed 3 million units sold in Japan!
That’s impressive for various reasons, but a key one is that its predecessor only sold about 1.5 million in six months. So, its successor has doubled that in roughly the same amount of time.
Nintendo has to be thrilled with this, and likely wants this level of sales to continue for a while. If it does continue to happen…I’ll let you know!
