Japan’s world-famous street food and culture festival rolls into Coconut Grove this weekend with Japan Fes Florida, a sprawling outdoor celebration of Japanese flavors, crafts and community that Miami food lovers won’t want to miss. After a successful debut in Miami Beach earlier this fall, the festival returns on Saturday, December 13 to turn Grand Avenue between McFarlane Road and Rice Street into an open-air marketplace of eats, art and pop culture from noon to 8pm. Then it returns to Coconut Grove outside of City Hall on December 14.

Hailed by organizers as one of the largest Japanese food festivals in the world, the event brings together a mix of local, national and international vendors showcasing everything from classic Japanese street snacks to contemporary fusion twists. Think steaming takoyaki, yakisoba noodles piled high with savory sauce, sushi tacos, refreshing matcha drinks, classic karaage and other must-try bites that make Japanese cuisine so iconic.

What sets Japan Fes apart from other street fairs is a blend of traditional and playful vibes. Alongside food you might find on the backstreets of Osaka or Tokyo, vendors bring artisan crafts, anime merchandise and novelties that give the event a distinctly vibrant, inclusive energy. Past editions have featured vendors that have appeared in major publications and on TV, and the Miami iteration promises to be no less exciting.

Whether you’re a seasoned fan of Japanese culture or just curious to taste something new, Japan Fes Florida delivers a lively snapshot of Japan’s culinary diversity. Strolling Grand Avenue alongside friends with a crispy Japanese corn dog in one hand and a cold tea in the other is a pretty compelling argument against the long flight to Tokyo—at least for a day.

The event is free to attend and family-friendly, making it easy to pop in after brunch or treat as a full afternoon of feasting and browsing. Keep in mind that large crowds are typical at Japan Fes gatherings nationwide, so getting there early might help you beat the longest lines.

Japan Fes Florida continues the festival’s mission of bringing authentic Japanese food and culture to communities around the globe, and this weekend, Miami gets its turn to savor every bite.

Japan Fes Florida runs Saturday, December 13, from 12pm-8pm on Grand Avenue between McFarlane Road & Rice Street and on December 14 from 12pm to 8pm in front of Miami City Hall. Click here for more info and a full list of vendors.
