Where to get premium, all-you-can-eat A5 wagyu in Tokyo ($52)

Yakiniku, which translates to grilled meat, has to be some of the most delicious cuisine Japan has to offer. And this special spot in the heart of Ginza doesn’t just offer fantastic yakiniku, it’s one of the rare places in Tokyo that serves it in an all-you-can-eat course, where you can truly sample and indulge to your heart’s content. But that’s not even the best part. This restaurant doesn’t just offer any average beef. This course offers unlimited premium Kuroge wagyu featuring top-tier cuts graded up to A5, which is the pinnacle score by Japanese beef grading standards. So for a singular price, you can sample and explore a wide variety of wagyu cuts, making this a fantastic course for those with an appetite. And since wagyu, especially of the A5 variety, is quite expensive wherever you go in the world, this course can be a fantastic value for those hungry enough. Though I’d likely advise against it for those with smaller appetites. As for the dining experience itself, there are a couple logistics quirks to be aware of. First off, an initial assortment of the day’s chosen cuts are given at the start of the meal. This is typical of most all-you-can-eat courses in Japan, and you can order whatever you’d like after the initial platter is finished. Secondly, there’s a pretty strict time limit of 100 minutes, with the last order needing to be submitted by the 70-minute mark. Though of all the times I’ve visited, the time limit has never been a problem, and 70 minutes has been ample time to order everything. This is largely due to their convenient ordering system, where you choose and submit orders electronically via a personal iPad-like device, making the process convenient and expeditious. As for the meat selection itself, it’s a bit tough to make specific recommendations since there’s such a wide variety of cuts in the yakiniku world, and they all have their own delicious characteristics. But personally, we tend to favor the beef short ribs and the roast, which are more on the marbled side. Of everything on the menu, these cuts provide the pinnacle of melt-in-your-mouth texture and juiciness due to their high-fat marbling. Though every piece has its merits, and there’s a large selection of leaner, albeit still marbled cuts that provides more of a balanced fat-to-flavor profile. Another repeat order that shouldn’t be overlooked is the wagyu nigiri, which is a uniquely delectable way to appreciate the premium flavor and texture of top-tier wagyu. Gently seared to delicately melt the rich marbling, it’s a tender, umami-packed experience that’s in a category of its own. Additionally, the all-you-can-eat menu offers a plethora of side dishes such as fresh and pickled vegetables, which are fantastic for complementing the unparalleled richness of heavily marbled wagyu. And if you have the stomach space, the other miscellaneous sides are quite enjoyable as well. Lastly, bright and sweet ice cream desserts are included in the course, which is the perfect way to round out the meal. All in all, Musashi Ginza is one of those rare gems in Tokyo where you can enjoy premium-quality wagyu at what’s potentially an extraordinarily reasonable price. So if you ever find yourself with a particularly large appetite for high-end yakiniku, this is a spot that more than delivers. But that’s all for now.
