Bullet Train to Hiroshima – First Impressions ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต

Good morning from Osaka. Just left my hotel, packed up, moving along. Today I’m going to be taking the Shinkansen bullet train from Osaka to Hiroshima. Uh just walking over to Shinosaka Station now. Need to find How do I get there real quick? So, things on to-do list in Hiroshima. I need to get a haircut. So, that’ll be a gamble. We’ll see how that turns out. Next, got to try the Hiroshima style okonomiyaki, which is the savory Japanese pancake. It’s a different style of the Naka one which I had here and I’ll include in the video when I when that comes out for Hiroshima. Also want to see you know where the sadly where the bomb was dropped and take a look at the history there around that. But uh yeah, I’ll catch up with you when I get to the the station. [Music] Consen bullet train has arrived. Let’s see what our seats like. Got a window seat 1A. All right, let’s do this. Set down about to take off. And away we go. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] I just got to Hiro Hiroshima. I met this guy the other night, Grant, who’s over here. I met him at the bar up in um in Osaka and he’s down here for a tournament. He’s from Seattle and a bunch of his buddies are here and what’s the name of the the tournament? So, the tournament we’re going to is the Kandama World Cup. This is a kandama. It’s a balling cup toy from Japan and you got you know the three cups and then Yeah, hang on a second. Show us how it’s done. Yeah, there’s a ton of tricks you can do. Look, look at this guy go. It’s amazing. stuff. So, we’re going to be competing Saturday, Sunday in Hatiki, Hiroshima. This is the biggest Kam probably ever. There’s over a,000 competitors coming this time. So, the winner gets about like uh 500,000 yen. So, it’s a big deal for all can players. Probably the highest like things they do for a second. I was like 500,000 yen. It’s probably like a little over three grand. Three grand. That’s not bad. Yeah. Yeah. For getting there. So, yeah. Bunch of us are here from the USA. I think over 26 countries are represented. 26 countries are represented. That’s incredible. Yeah. I I never seen this until in Tokyo I was up there and I was playing at the bar. I can’t do any of this stuff like you guys. Yeah. I’ve been playing for 12 years. Okay. All right. All right. Well, hey, have fun. I’m going to get going. Yeah. Thank you. It was really nice to meet you. Yeah. Nice to meet you as well. So, there’s a little tournament in town. Uh kind of cool. I didn’t I I ran into one of those devices in Tokyo. a couple weeks ago and I was just fooling around with it. I couldn’t get it to stick. But as you can see, that dude was quite quite uh practiced with that sport. So, I’m just walking down leaving the station. I need to get on to the metro. I got about 20 22minute ride to my hotel because of that tournament. A lot of the hotels are booked, so it’s going to be a little bit more expensive. And the place I’m staying is selfcheck-in. So, this this will be an event. We’ll see how I manage through that one. Okay, I just got off the bus. Got about 80 meter walk to the hotel. Looks like we got some fall color starting to show here in Hiroshima, which is nice cuz been kind of waiting for those throughout all of my trip to Japan so far. Okay, just leaving the hotel. You can see behind me an absolutely stunning sunset here in Hiroshima or Hiroshima, however you say it. I don’t know. But anyway, I’m just going to wander around here. I just left the hotel and I got something to say about that hotel. That hotel is peak Japan. And when I mean peak Japan, I mean 1988, Japan’s peak 89 somewhere in there whenever their exchange was the highest and most prosperous time for Japan. But that place is stuck in the 80s. And I kind of like it though. It’s uh it’s a good vibe. I’m not mad about it. So I’m just going to walk around, get some dinner a little bit here. I don’t know if I’m going to go with the okonomiyaki tonight or something else. We’ll see what catches my eye. But uh so far I’m uh it’s a beautiful city. [Music] Just look at this. Hiroshima is getting into Christmas spirit. Absolutely stunning. I love it. Love the fact that it’s a non-Christian country. Maybe less than 1% of the population is Christian. Maybe maybe it’s a little bit higher than that. I’ll have to check. But I love the fact that they really leaning into this and it’s it’s only November and and they uh sparing no expense. It’s not it’s not just here. It’s it’s all over it’s all over Japan I’ve seen so far and I really like it. I love it. [Music] We got the Hiroshima carp here represented the the local baseball team. And a shout out to my buddy John who loves to gamble and was betting on the carp overnight. I don’t know this is five, six, seven years ago. But uh I always got a kick out of that. ready. But here I am in in here Hiroshima, home of the carp. [Music] Christmas scene went on for several blocks. I’m just uh getting back from it. Probably four or five blocks. Is really cool to see all that set up. Glad I’ve been here in Hiroshima in time to see that this year. So, very cool. If you’re around, check it out. [Music] wandering around trying to find something to eat. took a little pit stop in the hopes of finding somebody that spoke English that uh could give me some recommendations. Ran into two people. Both of them just arrived here minutes ago also. So, that didn’t pan out like like in my mind’s eye it did. So, I’m going to keep searching, try to figure out some recommendations here for some okonamyaki or something else. [Music] [Music] Just found this okonomiyaki bar here. pulled up. This place had 4.9 ratings. So, I think it’s good. It looks good. It’s packed. There’s about seven seats in here. Six maybe. Really close to the griddle. So, it’s going to be good. We’ll check it out in a second. I just got this thing. It is massive. It’s It’s going to take a lot of a lot more than I’ve got to to put this down, but I’m going to give it a try here. This thing looks outstanding. It’s going to be hard to eat and film, but I’m going to do my best. So, this comes with a little spatula here and and chopsticks. So, we’re going to give it a try here. So, this is different than the Osaka version where this has it’s layered in. Has noodles, a lot more toppings here. It looks like there’s a lot more. There’s an egg on it. I got with the I went with the soba noodles here. So, let’s give it a try. [Music] There she is. Number one. [Music] Fantastic. [Laughter] Better than Osaka. Okonamayyaki. Oh, Hiroshima. Okay. So, I wasn’t just bullshitting them and telling them that the Hiroshima one is better. I actually do believe the Hiroshima Konamiaki is quite a bit better. Delicious. So, this place is really packed, but normally I’ll show you it here. Normally you would eat it off of the skillet off right off of the I guess this in the United States we call this habachi grill but because it was so packed they gave me my own little skillet here to to work on but it’s really good very flavorful okonomiyaki it’s called there’s a new place that opened up in Dallas in Carolton it’s fantastic give it a try now this is going to be it’s about 11 or 12 total it’s not bad for the amount of food dips here. I’m going to enjoy this and I’ll catch up to you in a minute. Something else I just now learned about the Hiroshima style okamayyaki. So, the spatula they give you, it is okay to actually shovel the food in your mouth like this here. You know, you don’t have to use the chopsticks if you don’t want to. You cut it up and then you shovel it right in and it works like that. [Music] All right, I just got done with that okonomiyaki. That place was awesome. Had a 4.9 rating. I already mentioned before about how strict the ratings are here. Now, I don’t know if that’s been skewed by tourists, but whatever it was, it was phenomenal. Glad I stopped in. might hurt some feelings here, but I don’t care. It’s my personal opinion. We’re all entitled to one, but the okonomyaki from Hiroshima Hiroshima is much better than the asaka one. They’re both good. They both have their place in this world, but that was so much better. Now, the big difference is, I think I mentioned this, was the layering of it. And so, Osaka just kind of mixes everything together. I didn’t have noodles on the one that I had in Osaka, but this one had a soba noodles baked in with egg and pork and you get squid and all these different toppings in. Regardless, is absolutely fantastic. The owner was great. His employees are great, very kind, um, very talkative through Google Translate, but you know, we got through it and, uh, yeah, he was interested. I was telling them about the one we have in North Texas and how good it is and how there’s a line out the door of the place a lot of times. So, it’s very good to see. All right, so I’m just walking through. [Music] Just going to head back to the hotel and probably call it a night here. And then I’m gonna come back tomorrow and I’m going to do a full Hiroshima tour outside do some of the more common places like go to the I think it’s called the Peace Museum or whatever. Not sure exactly what the bomb was, but a lot of the World War II history. I’ll be looking up tomorrow and uh filming that. So, I’m going to head back and wrap it up. But thank you for watching. Please subscribe, like, comment, share, and I’ll be talking to you later. More cup from Hiroshima. Good night.
