Hatsune Miku is about to take over Tokyo in record-breaking fashion, with the city gearing up to debut what organizers are calling “the largest Miku in history” during its New Year’s Eve countdown show.

If you thought the two-meter-tall Hatsune Miku gaming PC was impressive, then this new project takes things to a completely different scale.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building will transform into a massive projection mapping stage on December 31, 2025, projecting a towering digital Miku across one of the biggest projection surfaces on the planet.

The site already holds a Guinness World Record for its architectural projection system, and past displays have included everything from skyscraper-sized Godzilla to Evangelion, but now the virtual idol joins her colossal cousins for a record-breaking show.

The New Year countdown celebration is part of Happy New Year Tokyo 2026, and it is packed with multiple performances. Headlining the event is a cutting-edge immersive showcase featuring Hatsune Miku, built specifically for the projection-mapped performance.

She will be joined by a dance show featuring Hello Kitty and friends, plus a live performance from breakdancer Shigekix, creating a mix of pop culture, street dance, and digital spectacle.

Created by Mika Ninagawa and the creative team EiM, Miku’s show blends animation, lasers, and music across a projection surface that spans around 127 meters. While Organizers have not confirmed her exact rendered height, the scale means she could appear dozens of stories tall as she towers over the streets at midnight.

Entry is free with registration, and a livestream will be available for fans around the world, so even if you don’t happen to be in Tokyo, you’ll be able to enjoy the show no matter where you are.
