As Kyoto continues to find its ground over overtourism woes, a new travel update has been released: tourists will now have separate bus lines from locals.
The regular double-deck ‘Sky Hop Bus Kyoto’ will run a new purple line, connected to major tourist highlights including Kinkakuji Temple, Daitokuji Temple, Nijo Castle, and a new bus stop at Arashiyama.
Officials have noted that the new line is hoped to be a solution towards separating visitors from citizens, on what is a typical community bus route.
The official Kyoto City tourism site has released a few alerts this year, including urging tourists to protect Kyoto’s Arashiyama area which is now “frequently damaged by graffiti,” as well as reminders on forbidden acts such as following and taking photos of geisha.
