Japan-based Osaka Gas Trading and Export (OGTX), a subsidiary of Osaka Gas USA Corporation and wholly owned by Osaka Gas Co., Ltd., has entered into an agreement to procure biomethane from Archaea Energy, a bp-owned company and one of the largest renewable natural gas producers in the United States, reports Bioenergy Insight.

Under the agreement, OGTX will purchase approximately 26,000 Nm³ of biomethane, sourced from landfill gas at Archaea Energy’s U.S. production sites.

The biomethane will be liquefied at the Freeport LNG terminal on the Gulf Coast and transported to Osaka Gas’ LNG terminals in Japan’s Kansai region. Both the fuel and its associated environmental attributes will be delivered through existing pipeline networks for end-use by customers in Kansai.

The initiative aligns with Osaka Gas’s long-term strategy to expand domestic and international supply chains for carbon-neutral energy sources, including biomethane and e-methane, as Japan accelerates its transition to low-carbon energy systems.
