Quick visit to Kagoshima Downtown | A 1-day city trip (with incredible Food πŸ₯Ÿ)

Today I am going to spend the day in Kagoshima in southern Japan. I was lucky enough to stumble upon the retro ‘Kagoden’ train To start, I head to the Shiroyama observation platform to see the volcanic island of Sakurajima. The Musashi no Mori coffee chain is tempting, but I’ve already had breakfast and coffee. It’s about a 30-minute walk from Kagoshimachuo Station, but I really enjoy walking around the streets of Japan. I’m on the right track. I think there are many steps ahead of me. Did someone come to cheer on me? Unfortunately, Sakurajima Island is covered in clouds today 😒 So I go back down to see the Terukuni-jinja shrine which is really close. There is an old tree that is about 180 years old. Located right in the middle of a road, this imposing torii gate is magnificent. I am now at the Kagoshima Prefectural Museum. And honestly, it’s much better than I expected.
There’s a lot to learn about the region. Very fun and educational for both children and adults. With reconstructions of real environments reminiscent of scenes from Ghibli films. There are many beautiful natural places to discover around Kagoshima. Time to eat! For lunch, I had Kyushu-style gyoza, they were so good! There’s even a view of the local trains. For dinner, I went to Aigateya, a very stylish izakaya. The atmosphere and staff were excellent. And extraordinary food (oden and yakitori are must-try). Kyushu-style yakitori 🀀 Thanks for the food ☺️ During my night walk, I came across an Evangelion exhibition, but it was already closed. It’s dark, but the Kotsuki River is pretty and leads all the way to the sea. Kagoshima is a well-developed city and very busy at night. Some photos from the day β†’

A quick walking tour of Kagoshima City’s spots to visit! From the iconic retro tram to the awesome local Kyushu food finds, here is what you can do in a day in Japan’s Southern City.
