Kishida shared a picture on Instagram and wrote- “Former Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau came to Japan with his partner Katy Perry and had lunch with us.

During my time as Prime Minister, I met Prime Ministers many times, and when I visited Canada, we worked together to strengthen bilateral relations, including formulating the “Nikka Action Plan”.

“Prime Minister Trudeau still remains strong that in addition to official events, he visited the Atomic Bomb Archives separately during the G7 Hiroshima Summit.

Canada is an extremely important partner to Japan in all areas of politics, security, economics, culture, etc.
We will continue to work hard for friendship and cooperation between Japan and Canada.”

The public timeline of
Perry and Trudeau’s reported budding relationship began earlier in 2025 with multiple friendly encounters that photographers captured them together. The couple were first spotted dining together in Montreal. Joint public appearances followed and the more recent concert attendance and yacht outings have been widely covered.

The rumoured pair was spotted together in July when they were walking a dog before stepping out for a meal together at Montreal’s Le Violon, which is a month after
Katy ended her engagement with Orlando Bloom. The singer had announced her split at that time, with whom she has a 5-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom. The duo continue to co-parent their daughter, who was born in August 2020.
