Lindt is hoping to tap shoppers’ growing appetite for matcha with a new ‘Tokyo-style’ chocolate bar.
Tokyo-Style Chocolate Matcha Strawberry (£15) is made with premium, ceremonial grade Chamei Minami matcha, crispy Genmai roasted rice and Lindt’s Swiss white chocolate.
Billed as “the perfect stocking filler,” the NPD brought “a fresh and luxurious take” on the matcha craze, said Lindt.
A limited run of 200 bars will launch in Lindt’s flagship London Piccadilly store on 6 December. Each will be hand-numbered in store for an “extra special touch” and shoppers will be limited to one bar each.
Lindt will also be launching a competition on its UK Instagram account, offering fans another chance to get their hands on the limited-edition bar.
It comes a year after Lindt launched its take on the viral ‘Dubai chocolate’ trend into selected stores.
Following its sell-out success last December, Lindt secured listings with Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Ocado and Tesco earlier this year.
Waitrose introduced a two-bar limit for shoppers purchasing the treat to regulate stock levels due to its “incredible popularity”.
Lindt expanded the range with a Dubai Style Chocolate Praline Box and a smaller 40g sized Dubai Style Chocolate bar in March, followed by White and 70% Cocoa versions in September.
“After seeing the reaction to our Lindt Dubai Style Chocolate over the past year, we’re excited to continue our culinary journey, this time to Japan,” said Lindt master chocolatier Stefan Bruderer.
“We can’t wait to see what people think of this exclusive drop.”
