Northwest Pacific enters seasonal TCCOR 5/All Clear

1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, Japan time: What was a relatively quiet typhoon season in the northwest Pacific has come to an end, with U.S. bases on Okinawa entering seasonal Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness All Clear and bases in Japan and Korea seasonal TCCOR 5 as of 0001 Dec. 1.

U.S. bases in Japan flirted a couple of times with upgraded TCCORs as a handful of tropical storms skirted the east coast of the Tokyo-Kanto Plain area during the summer. Okinawa entered TCCOR 3 but once, in mid-October, when Typhoon Nakri passed somewhat close.

U.S. bases on Guam remain in TCCOR 4 year-round, because of its close proximity to where typhoons are apt to form. In fact, a handful of the strongest storms to strike the island over the decades occurred out of nominal typhoon season.
