Visitors to Japan are being offered the chance to bag a free domestic flight in a bid to boost awareness of the country’s lesser-known regions.

All Nippon Airways (ANA) and the Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO) have teamed up to promote travel beyond the popular ‘gateway’ cities and encourage tourists from the UK and Europe to experience “authentic” life in the Asian country.

The joint Stopover and Add-on Free Fare promotion is valid on ANA’s domestic network of 40-plus destinations and gives trade partners the opportunity to create bespoke, multi-destination holidays without charging extra for internal flights.

Two free economy domestic flights are available for every international economy ticket booked until January 31, 2026.

ANA and JNTO said the promotion had been developed after the country reported record inbound tourism for 2024, with 36.87 million international visitors. While 90% said they planned to explore the destination, only 10% of tourists have actually done so.
