Weekend Drive in Okinawa Turned Into This…No Plans, No Crowds — Just a Lazy Day in Okinawa

Hi friends. We didn’t plan anything today, just a lazy Saturday drive with no destination. And somehow it turned into one of the most peaceful and relaxing days we’ve had in Okinawa. We stopped at Midsy Road Beach. No agenda, just the breeze and a few wind surfers who were clearly having more ambition than us. The wind was soft. The waves tapped the shore in a steady rhythm, and sitting there felt like we had pressed pause on everything. We kept driving over the bridge to Hamiga Island, then down winding roads that felt like they were leading nowhere until we found Shirro Mission Park. It’s basically a parking lot, but with a seaw wall that opens up to a secluded beach with some of the most beautiful inwater rock formations we’ve ever seen. And the views are very different depending on the tide. This time it was high tide, but coming here during low tide and walking through the rock formation is incredibly special. And then came the security guard, a large white duck, beautiful, bold, possibly hungry, definitely in charge. She held her ground like she owned the place, and honestly, we respect that. We continued to Shir Mishu shrine by following a gravel path that looked freshly cleared. Like someone had just decided this hidden shrine deserved a little more love. But first, make note of this privatelyowned cafe knicknack shop that leads to an off thebeaten path side of town worth exploring. But let’s get back to the shrine. It’s tucked into the jungle, quiet and sacred. one of the most hidden shrines in Okinawa. And it felt like we were the only ones who knew it was there. And a couple of other people It is said that people come to pray to the goddess of fertility. Small pebbles or rocks from the nearby ocean are placed in the cave as offerings. We ended the day at Hamiga Beach. Quiet, calm, with just a few fisherman in the distance. No campers, no crowds, just us. The ocean, a few beautiful cats, and the kind of silence you don’t realize you’ve been craving. Sometimes the best days are the ones you don’t plan. And this one with duck shrines and cats was exactly that. Thanks for watching and subscribing.

Have you ever had a day where doing nothing turned into discovering everything? We didn’t plan this trip — but we found windsurfers, a duck security guard, and one of Okinawa’s most hidden shrines.
