A Trip to Kumamoto

[Music] So, after a mishap with missing my bus because it said it was in one place, then wasn’t, I’m now in Kumamoto. got the train instead and let’s enjoy. So, quick room check. Pleasantly, I said, “Can I leave my suitcase here?” Cuz I was here an hour early. This is the room’s ready. So, that’s nice. First time I’ve ever had a wooden key. It’s kind of interesting. Got a fridge at the ready. We’ve got a double bed with two pillows. I don’t need to ask for that. We have a view of someone’s kitchen or something. Another hotel maybe. And that’s the last place. Do we have a bath? I sincerely hope so. We do. And that looks like a deep one. I’m I’m I’m happy. Is what I was about to say. And I’ve realized that the layout of this room, I guess in order to use the desk, the bed is your like chair, which is kind of annoying, but So, Kumo Castle is kind of when I looked online said is the second best castle in Japan. So, I do kind of want to go. Right now, it’s undergoing a bit of work. Maybe tomorrow cuz it’s too late today. Anyway, super interesting that each stone seems to have its own number. I imagine they’re going to put it back like a jigsaw at some point. And here we are, day two at the castle at the right time this time to have a look around. Today is a Wednesday and there are so many school kids around. So unfortunately this castle is like a museum castle as you see in quite a few the same as the one in Oscar where on the outside lovely historic beautiful on the inside it’s just a completely modern museum stuff everywhere and this one was all in Japanese which you know is obviously fine but like I couldn’t get much out of it. I saw on on Google as well like the old traditional design but I think that’s in the other castle which is currently undergoing re renovations. So unfortunately that’s not for today. neck. That’s a lot of fish. Now, if this was a platformer, one, two, three, maybe [Applause] This is a miniature man it seems. So something else come was well known for is the one piece. uh order was born here and you know wrote some stuff here. So after what the devastating earthquake I think it was 2016 they built one of one piece statues. Now without a car it’s hard to get to most of these but I get to see at least two maybe three or four. And right in front of me is the first one. So, this road has a bunch of like little things on it cuz there’s a big shrine at the end of it. One of the oldest in Kumamoto, over a thousand years old, but it’s uh clearly closed for now. So, we’re just going to more One Piece. And for the other one we get to see, it is none other than Chopper. Final One Piece statue. I thought it was this. I was like, who the hell’s that? But no, it was Zoro’s over there. Just got lost. So, I’ve arrived at my station at Mount Nasso. Now, thing is this place, it’s pretty bad for public transport, but I’ve looked at the buses. They were so infrequent. I’m not going to manage it. I’m just going to have a little wander around. See it in the background a little bit. Just enjoy that. There’s a shrine under. So, my first stop is Aso Ginger, which as I turned the corner was actually a whole lot more impressive than I was expecting. Other than the car park, it’s just sprawling. Anyway, I’ve got my Emma. They’re quite nice design. So, I’ve got two of them, which is good. You can just see them here. Beautiful. Have a little look around. And then, honestly, nothing else planned. anyway. Checking the local buses. According to Google, the next train that gets like the observation point is 4 and 1 half hours uh waiting. So, I’m not doing that. Um I’m just going to wander around for a bit, enjoy my tapioca, see the sightes. I can see the volcano a little bit. Enjoy that. So like the active volcano bit is this way which I can’t see through all the buildings in the way. This way as I’m walking here just open fields and this particular flood open mountain shapes there. I think to get to the main station, I’ve basically walking along this road for like half an hour, 40 minutes. You can see bits. I’m just hoping I’m going to find a good view while on the way cuz what you’re supposed to do is drive up there. I ain’t doing that clearly. So, this is really good tapioca. It’s a nice day. The temperature is like a bit warm, but not overbearing. There it is. This is what I’ve been waiting for. Observe a tree. Wow. Only I will be walking along these roads on my holiday. This is what I like to do. It might not look it from here where I am right now. But it honestly surprises me just how close to this, you know, active volcano. But a reasonable size settlement is like a tapioca shop. Some places I’ve traveled that have cities don’t have that. Humanity doesn’t miss me. So, I have found out that there’s actually buses outside that Google didn’t know about. My research doesn’t show me either to get up to the crater, but it also says if you have asthma, don’t do it. And I’ve got asthma, so I could do risky, but I’m not going to. I’m going to enjoy the view from here. anime bears apparently. [Music] [Music]

I had to stop off in Kumamoto to see the great gardens and the wondrous Aso – with some one piece thrown in!
