The Marine Corps on Wednesday relieved the commander of the logistics unit responsible for supplying aviation units on Okinawa, less than a month after firing the command team of an MV-22B Osprey unit in Hawaii.
Lt. Col. Calischaran G. James was relieved of command of Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36, based at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing spokesman Maj. Joseph Butterfield said by email that day.
Wing commander Maj. Gen. Marcus Annibale relieved James due to “loss of trust and confidence in his ability to command,” Butterfield wrote.
“Commanders are held to the highest standards of conduct and must consistently live above reproach,” he said. “This decision reflects the Marine Corps’ dedication to upholding the trust and confidence that are essential for effective leadership.”
Lt. Col. Ryan Iden has assumed interim command of the unit, Butterfield said.
In a follow-up email, Butterfield said an active investigation is underway but declined to provide further details “out of respect for the investigatory process.”
The logistics squadron falls under Marine Aircraft Group 36 at Futenma, which also includes Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadrons 262 and 265 (reinforced).
The wing on Oct. 28 relieved the commander, executive officer and senior enlisted leader of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 268 at Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.
The commander, Lt. Col. Shaina Hennessey was relieved based on a “loss of trust and confidence in her ability to uphold the safety and readiness standards expected in Marine Corps aviation,” 2nd Lt. B.K. Rhodes, a wing spokesman, said at the time.
