Tokyo police have arrested a 37-year-old man suspected of driving a stolen car that he then used to plow through a busy street in Tokyo’s Adachi Ward on Monday, which killed one person and injured 10 others in a chaotic hit-and-run.
The suspect, an unemployed resident of Adachi Ward, was taken into custody on suspicion of vehicle theft after fleeing the scene and abandoning the car. He has denied the allegation, telling investigators he “didn’t steal it” and was “just taking it for a test drive.”
Police are examining his criminal responsibility and considering additional charges, including hit-and-run under the Road Traffic Act and causing death and injury through dangerous driving.
