Top 6 Foods You MUST Try at Kyoto’s Nishiki Market 🍣🍵
So, Ni and I are in Japan for our honeymoon, and today we’re exploring Kyoto’s famous Nashiki Market. It’s open daily until 6:00 p.m. and packed with hundreds of vendors from fresh seafood to Wagyu beef skewers. We’re on a mission to find the best bites and show you exactly where to go. So, keep watching for our top recommendations. Our first stop is Seno Kamura, a stall that’s one of the oldest and niki marketplace dating back for over 400 years. It’s known for its fresh fish and seafood, and it’s often sold at a reasonable price. You can try a variety of sashimi here, but the most popular are the fatty tuna, the salmon, and the oysters. Try my fresh medium oyster with lemon on it. M. It’s pretty fresh. So fresh. Wow. Not fishy or like stinky at all. That was very good. So yummy. One of the best oysters I’ve had. Yay. Let’s go ahead and try the fatty tuna. Look at that. Looks so fatty. Cheers. Cheers. M. That’s really good. I accidentally got some wasabi on there. I know. Spicy, but wow. It’s very That is really good. It’s like melty. I’ve never had tuna like this before. That was good. This is the best tune I’ve ever had. This is impressive. Wow. Try a medium fatty. Medium fatty. [Music] Pretty good still. It’s fresh, but I like the texture. It’s like more mushy, but not as fatty as the other one. I like the fatty one more. I think the fatty one has way more flavor. Yeah. Should we try the salmon next? The salmon. Very fresh. Nice like buttery taste to it. I’m impressed. It’s really good. Yeah, but I like the tuna more. [Music] I I like salmon. This is really good salmon. That’s regular tuna piece. That’s good. [Music] Not down. Our total price tag for this meal was 3,500 yen. So this translates to about 20 USD. Next, we stopped at Shinagawa, a restaurant specializing in Omi beef. Omi Beef is a premium Wagyu known for its subtle sweetness, smooth flavor, and beautiful marbling. The cattle are raised with exceptional care, and only about 6,000 are shipped each year. So many say tasting Omi beef is a once in a-lifetime experience. We ordered the deep fried Omi beef skewer and the Omi beef potato circuit. Very fatty with a lot of fat. Someone that likes meat flavor more. I think it’s too fatty. Very good. Melts in your mouth. Good flavor. Yeah, I think for me it’s too fatty, but I think some people will like that. Yeah, I really like it. I think the meat melts in your mouth. It’s so good. Quiet itself is really good. I didn’t get any meat in this, but I think what’s nice is that they make it fresh. So, they ask you to wait uh 5 minutes. Mhm. Uh to make it on the spot. Potato is definitely seasoned well. I think I prefer the deep fried wagu instead. So, we are at Kono Oni Dooro Hiro. It’s known for its Wagyu beef. So, they have Wagyu beef sashimi. And then I we got the beef skewer though to try. It’s good, but not as flavorful as I thought it should be. Very juicy. It’s nice chew to it. Lightly salted. Not bad. Meat. Flavor is there, but it’s not the best piece of steak I’ve ever had. It’s okay. It’s like above average. We are now at Yimura. Tyura is like a stand that sells really good shrimp tempura. I heard the shrimp is very juicy, so I’m excited to check this out. They also offer a variety of tempura including oyster, crab, squid, and vegetables. After you place your order, each piece is flash fried again to bring back that perfectly crunchy texture. You can finish it with either matcha salt or regular salt. The matcha m. That batter is so good. Very flavorful. Only batter. The shrimp is juicy. Definitely juicy. And it’s thick. [Music] Masha salt adds like a little bit of a bitterness to it, but it’s still good. I think I think you need some regular salt. Now, I do think the matcha salt takes away from the flavor because it is bitter, but that’s just what matcha is. Is it better with the salt? [Music] Yeah, I would just add regular salt for this one. But overall, highly recommend if you’re looking for tempura. We finally made it to Sihawa, famous for its premium matcha desserts, especially the matcha mochi and rich matcha ice cream. They offer four levels of matcha ice cream, ranging from standard to super premium, plus the hojisha flavor. You can even get their premium matcha gelato topped with the matcha mochi and they serve matcha lattes as well. They also have plenty of matcha souvenirs that are perfect to take home. Today we are trying the matcha gelato with the mochi, the hojicha ice cream and the matcha latte. [Music] M. So soft. Very matcha ice cream. Oh, that’s so good. It’s very, very soft and very pleasant. Very matcha, a roasted green tea. Very strong roasted tea flavor, but I have a sweet tooth and it’s not that sweet. It’s like a mild sweetness to it. I’m going to try the matcha latte. [Music] M. Very high quality, but yes, it’s not as sweet. I think I would have to add some gum syrup to it just to make it more like sweet, but it’s you can tell it’s good quality matcha. It’s smooth. I personally don’t like matcha. I don’t even eat it right now, but it’s too bitter for me. It’s fine. Our last stop of the day was Matcha House. A little outside Nishiki Market, but famous for its matcha tiramisu. While they also serve other matcha desserts, today we tried both the hojicha and uji matcha tiramisu. I’m going to go ahead and dig in now. [Music] The amount of flavor in this is really good. Let me try it again. I guess I really do like the cream and the the matcha seems like pretty good quality on the bitter end, but I think the bitterness compliments the sweetness of the cream. He’s going to try the hojicha now. Hojicha tiramisu. [Music] The roasted tea flavor compliments the cream very well. Try with the cake. Now wafer doesn’t have that roasted flavor that I’m hoping for. It’s all in the powder on top. So the wafer didn’t add much to it. I think I think just the powder and the cream itself is good. Wafer is just like a little bit extra. Yeah. But overall, I think it is really good. After a full day of eating, Nia and I wandered around Kyoto until our dinner reservation at Bungoon, which I’ll share in a future video.
