A group of Canadian travel advisors were treated to a glittering deep dive into Austria’s Swarovski Kristallwelten in Toronto.
David Zipperle, head of the attraction’s Global Tourism Competence Center, led the presentation.
Advisors were invited to create their own piece of jewellery using Swarovski crystals. The session offered an overview of how the attraction can fit into FIT, group, and even MICE itineraries.

“Swarovski Crystal Worlds is so much more than one of the largest Swarovski stores in the world,” Zipperle said, noting its “expansive green spaces and adventure playground in view of snow-capped Tyrolean mountains, a black-and-white carousel, art galleries with 15 permanent exhibits, award-winning dining from Daniels Kristallwelten by DoN and a shopping experience that combines retail with a museum of a curated Swarovski collection of items.”
Between the Playtower and outdoor playground and the interactive exhibits inside the gallery and museum spaces, the attraction is designed to keep “kids of all ages” engaged. When guests arrive, they are greeted by the Giant — the moss-covered, crystal-embedded face that serves as the gateway to the Exhibitions of Wonder and the retail area. Its design references traditional Austrian fairy tales, with a waterfall flowing from its mouth.

Inside, advisors learned that internationally renowned artists such as Yayoi Kusama, James Turrell and Mexican-Canadian Rafael Lozano-Hemmer currently have installations inspired by light and colour.
Permanent exhibits range from Alexander McQueen’s “Silent Night,” kept at –10°C year-round, to “The Art of Performance,” featuring Marilyn Monroe’s gown worn while singing to President John F. Kennedy, along with pieces from Rocketman and Cinderella’s glass slipper. Swarovski also created the crystal curtains used on the Academy Awards stage.

Located in Wattens, the attraction is 15 minutes from Innsbruck, close to Munich Airport, and about two hours by train from Vienna. Transfers from Innsbruck are offered on electric buses, and the ride is included in the Innsbruck Card.
According to a press release, the site offers perks and bonuses for FIT clients, groups and MICE programs, with additional opportunities at Swarovski’s retail stores in Innsbruck and Vienna.
