【64泊65日・北海道車中泊の旅③】道南編・函館〜松前|おっさん軽自動車の旅
Trip Day 4: Hakodate. August 22nd. This park has been quiet. Cloudy. High 26°C. Current temperature 24°C. Temperature inside the car 28.3°C. At this temperature, I can stay in the car. A fancy breakfast for once. Ingredients: leftover rice, raw egg, soy sauce. The key is to pour soy sauce over the rice. If you pour it on the egg, it loses its flavor. Done. Raw egg on rice (yakitori flavor). Eat outside. Seven-Eleven coffee. I like bottled coffee. It’s mild, cheap, and easy. Eating raw egg on rice while watching the planes is rare. Maybe not. Can you watch the planes while eating raw egg on rice? Let’s eat. The rice is firm and delicious. I’m pretty busy. Thank you for the meal. I’ll have a light breakfast. After eating, your mouth becomes acidic, making you more susceptible to cavities. Apparently gargling is good. Lunch boxes are bulky. I want a trash compactor. Maybe I should try driving over them with my car? No point. It’s hot inside the car, so I’m creating an air passage. This will cool it down. 10:48 AM. Preparing for tomorrow’s live stream. Once that’s done, I’ll head west. Working on my computer. I spotted a bird I’d never seen before. 12:25 PM. Finally setting off. Feeling a bit hungry. Peanuts. I brought some from home. Perfect for a snack. It was a quiet park. Not many people there, even during the day. Even on a cloudy day, it’s hot with the windows closed. I passed Hakodate and headed west to the monastery. I got lost along the way, but… I finally arrived. [Trappist Monastery]. I’m hungry. Chicken pasta with tomatoes. Just the right flavor. I saved the noodles for the soft-serve ice cream. Stroll. [Road to Rome]. Current location. Monastery. I’ll walk along [Road to Rome]. Apparently it’s an [Italian umbrella pine]. It’s a little different from Japanese pines, but somewhat similar. A pleasant meadow. I found the monastery. [Trappist Monastery]. You can’t go inside. This is the first time I’ve been to a monastery since I saw Furuhata Ninzaburo. A poster for “The Road to Rome.” Professional photos look three times better. Five times better in winter. The monastery produces dairy products. Cookies, jam, soft serve ice cream, butter candy. The soft serve ice cream is very popular. “A Day at the Monastery.” I’m very interested. 3:30 AM Wake up. 3:45 AM Reading prayer. 9:00 AM Work/study. 11:30 AM Lunch . 1:10 PM Work. 5:30 PM Prayer. 8:00 PM Bedtime. 7 hours and 30 minutes of sleep. “Trappist Monastery.” End of walk. Shop. Soft serve ice cream for 450 yen [US$3]. Off we go. “450 yen soft serve ice cream” wasn’t in the dictionary. Apparently it was the most delicious soft serve ice cream in Japan. Kikonai Town. Right next to the station is a roadside station. Kikonai Roadside Station. 3:00 PM. Kikonai Station is on the right. The roadside station is on the left. A train is just arriving. The one-car train sounds great. It sounds similar to a truck. Kikonai Station is a Shinkansen stop. It ‘s a new and impressive station. There’s a dog run in front of the station. As you’d expect from Hokkaido. There’s a violinist there. Apparently, 1,500 people gather for the Ironman race. Google Review ★4.0. Okushiri Wine. A popular bakery. Their famous mailbox. You can actually use it. A dog was riding on the back of a motorcycle. Motorcycle trip with a dog. Koppen Dodo: Salt Bread 90 yen [US$0.6]. The butter oozes out. The violinist earlier was a man in his 20s. A violinist traveling around Hokkaido. [Roadside Station Kikonai]. Ranked #1 on the Hokkaido Jalan Roadside Station Ranking. There’s a torii gate in the sea. The unusual location of the torii gate. Misogi Beach. There’s a winter festival. Apparently, people go swimming in the sea in the cold. January in Hokkaido is harsh. [Winter Misogi Festival]. This is the festival site. You can see the blue-green forests of Honshu. Fukushima Town, Matsumae District. Shopping for dinner. Coop Sapporo Fukushima Branch. The Italian wine they sell here is delicious. Apparently a bear recently visited this store. Just an ordinary rural town. It apparently came out in the evening, just around this time. I’m worried. There’s a high school next door. There are mountains behind the supermarket. The bear probably came from the mountains. As expected, bears are found near mountains. The view in front of the store. Just an ordinary rural town. Looking for wine. Atka mackerel 398 yen [US$2.7]. Baba garai 580 yen [US$3.9]. Raw herring 322 yen [US$2.2]. One raw Japanese flying squid 500 yen [US$3.4]. Looking around while shopping. Things I bought: Deep-fried tofu. Cheese snacks. The Italian wine I was looking for, 1L. It’s in a paper carton, so it’s easy to dispose of. 550 yen per bottle (US$3.7). Total: 1,387 yen (US$9.3). Heading to the southernmost cape of Hokkaido. May peace return to this town. It doesn’t look like there will be any bears. The southernmost tip of Hokkaido is in sight. The location is a little hard to find. Cape Shirakami. The cape is windy. Cape Shirakami. Southernmost tip of Hokkaido. The southernmost part of Hokkaido. That’s Aomori Prefecture. But… There’s nothing special here. A hidden gem. Matsumae (famous for Matsumae pickles). Roadside station Matsumae. The ocean is right in front of you. Roadside station: Kitamaefune Matsumae. Strolling around the roadside station. Closed. Mysterious terrace seating. Lit up. A great place on a clear day. So true. The ocean is right in front of you, but there’s a fence… Can’t be helped. But you can hear the waves. It’s amazing. A big rock. It’s starting to look like a meteorite. What’s that? It seems to be a wharf. It’s surrounded, so the waves are calm. Matsumae Park map. There’s Matsumae Castle. There’s also a temple. I’m not particularly interested, but I’ll take a look tomorrow. There’s a Matsumae pickled fish shop next to the roadside station. It’s a limited company, so I have high hopes. I relax in the car. I’m a little tired, so I take a break before having dinner. Dinner. Chicken pasta. Served with tomatoes and steamed beans. Cheese and sweets. Fake fried tofu, ganmodoki. Blanched to remove the oil. Dashi-age. Delicious with a dashi flavor. White wine that isn’t chilled tastes bad. White wine tastes good if you add carbonated water. The night is still to come. Seaweed.
