Beautiful bowl

I’m not sure if my question falls under food, if not, please delete, pass on, or ignore.

Our son recently passed away and we found this beautiful bowl in his apartment.

Does anyone recognize it, and/or know its main purpose (other than eating from). Are there certain foods that should be eaten in it, or not eaten in it?
