On November 22, commencing at 3:25 p.m. local time (10:25 p.m. on November 22, Japan time) for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, who is visiting South Africa to attend the G20 Johannesburg Summit, held a bilateral Summit Meeting with the Rt Hon Keir Starmer MP, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

1.   At the outset, Prime Minister Starmer reconveyed his congratulations to Prime Minister TAKAICHI for assuming the office. Prime Minister TAKAICHI, while expressing her gratitude, stated that she wished to work with Prime Minister Starmer, both as G7 partners and key allies of the United States, with a view to realizing a ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific’ and maintaining and strengthening an international order based on the rule of law. 

 

2.   The two leaders, referring to the visit of the UK’s Carrier Strike Group 25 to Japan this summer and the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), concurred to continue advancing concrete Japan-UK security cooperation. The two leaders also concurred to collaborate effectively as important like-minded partners in the field of economy as well as economic security.

3.   The two leaders exchanged views on the international situations such as East Asia. The two leaders concurred that they should continue to coordinate their efforts on various issues in the international community.
