I Tried Japan’s New All-Private Room Ferry 🛳️ Hokkaido → Tokyo(via Oarai Port)

This video is… Hello while running 👋 I’m Taiyaki 🐟 I’m freaking out because the bus time is way too tight Ah! The bus is already here 😳 If I miss this one, I can’t get to the port! Oh my god My heart’s already racing from running for the first time in a while lol Phew Made it on board safely. That was close—first time in a while. There’s a restroom and power outlets. Tomakomai Station to Tomakomai Nishi Port Ferry Terminal: 280 yen Arrives in about 15 minutes By the way, there’s also a bus from Sapporo Station to the ferry terminal. This ferry seems to be the ship called Silver Tiara. First time I’ve seen it. This time I’m boarding the ferry Sunflower “Pirika”. This ferry just started service in 2025 and uses LNG fuel, making it an environmentally friendly ferry. Greta is smiling too. Incidentally, “Pirika” apparently means ‘beautiful’ or ‘rich’ in the Ainu language. Now, let’s head inside. Check-in is one floor below There are two counters, but this time it’s the right one for Sunflower It’s 10:15 PM now, but the ship departs at 1:30 AM today… Check-in complete. I was thinking I’d have to wait quite a while until boarding, but it turns out boarding starts at 10:45 PM, which was a relief. There are no convenience stores nearby, so this shop is the only one. Closes at 11 PM. I’ll buy some food. Boarding time. This time from platform 1. This ferry terminal has a really long walkway to the boarding area lol On this channel, I upload review videos of transportation like ferries and buses, as well as hotels, so please subscribe! 🙏 Finally arrived at the ferry As expected, it’s pretty clean since it just started service this year First, I get the room key at the front desk Got the key This time, the room is a Comfort S Single for 15,300 yen (used web discount) Here it is Inside looks like this It’s been a while since I stayed in a private room—so happy lol The pillow is like this. The top is fluffy, the bottom has beads. Disposable slippers Sheets Comforter There’s also a TV First female Prime Minister born 🎉 Outlet and USB port on the wall No smoking Hangers made of this curious rubber-like material. Cool Happy to see a chair and desk in the room. There’s an outlet too. Eating cup noodle for a late-night snack. Today I chose curry flavor. Usually I like seafood or soy sauce flavor lol Curry flavor is tasty too when you eat it occasionally 👍 I came outside. This ship’s deck is narrow, so you can’t move around much. Nighttime view of Tomakomai West Port This is a dead end By the way, this ship’s deck has a peculiar shape, split into two sides separated by a passageway. Entering the inside, the vehicle deck. It’s already late today, so I’m going to sleep. Good night 😴 The next morning Good morning ☀️ Last night, maybe because it was the cheapest room and close to the engine, it was pretty noisy Still, it was nice to sleep in a private room instead of a capsule room. I slept well. Time for breakfast. I found out at check-in that this ship doesn’t have a restaurant, only vending machines. I knew about the vending machine ferry I took before boarding, but since this ship is new, I just assumed it would have a restaurant. Preconceptions are scary. This looks delicious. 450 yen. Milan-style doria. Is 238kcal really true?? 😳 Looks like you peel off the film, remove the lid, and microwave it. The vending machine ferry the other day was pretty systematized, but this one isn’t quite there yet. It’s still new, so I’m hopeful for the future. This is the hot water dispenser. Discard leftover cup noodles here. Chopsticks and spoons are available for free use. Milan-style doria complete The rice is spread thinly at the bottom The flavor is incredibly delicious! It’s so good I doubt it’s actually frozen food I still can’t believe it’s only 238 kcal, but the taste was absolutely outstanding So, shall we do the ship tour we couldn’t do yesterday? First, this ship only has one floor: the fifth floor. This is the Information Desk. Earplugs are available for free. The shop is also inside the Information Desk. It’s quite small inside. They sell cup noodles, retort pouch rice, and similar items. Souvenirs Ice cream Cashless payment available Kids’ area This is a relaxation space. Magazines and newspapers are available No Shoes Allowed Fitness Room A small space with just two exercise bikes No shoes allowed here either This area has a beverage vending machine Prices are about the same as convenience stores in Tokyo Currency exchange machine Important note: The vending machines don’t accept cashless payments, so you’ll need cash. Don’t forget! This ship also has a designated area for contracted drivers. This area is off-limits to us regular passengers. The “D” likely stands for Driver. Our area is only on this side. The drivers are working, so I want them to relax. This is the large bath. The women’s bath is over there. Business Hours Of course, photography is prohibited here, so please refer to the images on the website. I was surprised to find such a beautiful bathhouse and even a sauna. This is the laundry room Dryer: 100 yen/30 minutes, Washer: 300 yen per load Plenty of seating by the windows. Outlets are provided too, which is great. Nice variety of chair types. There are power outlets here too. Being a new ship, they understand modern needs Lockers. Refrigerated ones require payment Regular lockers are coin-return type. Free of charge. I’ve been wondering about these white egg-shaped things since earlier…🤔 Not sure, but I thought maybe it’s rice-themed? There’s a rice brand called Yumepirika, and this ship’s name is Pirika too. This ship has a lot of chairs with nice designs. This ship apparently has 35% lower carbon dioxide emissions. There’s no Wi-Fi onboard, but you can connect to the internet from the land-side seats. It feels clean. This ship also has designated areas for people who get seasick to vomit 🤭 There’s poop on the toilet seat… can’t show you that lol It does have a bidet function. Phew, that surprised me Smoking area And, as I mentioned a bit yesterday, this is the outdoor deck There isn’t much space to walk around. Another spot that was closed yesterday was open today. This one is closer to the sea. But this place has time limits and seems to close quickly depending on sea conditions. Add one more! 👏 I’m hungry. There’s a Sukiya menu. The rice and beef bowl came out separately. Looks like you heat it with the photo side down Open the rice packet before heating it Gyudon complete Never thought I’d be eating gyudon out on the ocean. It’s pretty authentic, but I wish it had pickled ginger. Tasted great though! Thanks for the meal🙏 Dr Pepper after the meal I’m glad to see it since it’s not available in my area Oh yeah, I bought the ship’s stamp(Gosenin) The illustration is lovely Gonna work hard on video editing! 👊 Exercise Last meal on board Carbonara for 600 yen Done Ingredients include a little bacon and spinach The noodles are flat type. The included fork was hard to use, so I grabbed chopsticks instead 🤭 The rich flavor tasted delicious. Thank you for the meal 🙏 Time to disembark. Around 7:30 PM at Oarai Port Another Sunflower ferry is docked “Sapporo” ferry One last time The area you pass through when disembarking feels like you’re going through the ship’s interior, which is kind of exciting ♪ Heading to Mito Station by bus now This is the ship we just rode. Cool 🛳️ The bus still hasn’t arrived… Arrival is at 19:30, so there’s about a 45-minute wait. Eating bread while I wait. Isn’t the red bean paste a little sparse? 🤨 The bus has arrived. By the way, this bus doesn’t accept Suica. Credit card contactless payments are accepted. Just in case, it’s better to bring cash. Arrived at Mito Station. That’s all for this video.

  2. Good to see japanese ferries, hopefully one day if i ever get to japan would like to try a trip with them.

  3. Yes, you had your own room this time😊 Loved this boat ride!!! What's coming up next? I hope you are doing well ❤❤❤

  4. Hi Tayaiki, I am new to your channel and have just subscribed. Now I look forward to look at some of the videos you posted earlier. I am a big fan of Japan and will return there for the 5th time in March 2026. Untill then, I take virtual mini trips to Japan thanks to great channel like yours. So thank you for posting and sharing with us.

For this very new ferry, I am surprised that it is not "better" than older sunflower ferries. For example, there seems to be not such a great choice of vending machine food, and the microwave system is not organised as well as in older ferries. Also, no cashless payment, a very tiny shop, no WiFi, no restaurant ? But maybe demand for ferries is lower, and they have to build the ships cheaper ? Still, I enjoyed watching this video.

P.S. your duck is cute 🙂. Does it have a name ?

  5. A reasonable room rate, but I'm disappointed with the food selection and giving you the cheapest type chopsticks.😊

  6. It looks like it could be a good experience to have for a journey. But, how does a non-Japanese speaker navigate through it all?
