HOKKAIDO (TR) – Security camera footage captured a thief burglarizing a coin-operated change machine at a laundromat in Sapporo City on Monday, reports Fuji New Network.

At around 4 a.m., when the store was deserted, the male individual, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, enters the 24-hour laundromat in Shiroishi Ward and headed for the currency exchange machine.

With gloves on both hands, the individual then removes a crowbar-like tool from his bag and, without any hesitation, attempts to pry open the currency exchange machine.

He finally pulls open the door, stuffs the cash compartment inside into the bag he brought with him and runs out the door.

The whole caper took 4 minutes.

The destroyed currency exchange machine was valued at approximately 2.5 million yen. As well, about 200,000 yen in cash was stolen.

According to the company operating the laundromat, a similar incident occurred at another store in Sapporo in April. In that case, 200,000 yen in cash was stolen.

Regarding the series of crimes at the company’s laundromats, the president said, “We strengthened security after the crime in April. It’s very frustrating.”

Police are investigating, believing that the two crimes to be related.
