University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa football placekicker Kansei Matsuzawa has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the 2025 Lou Groza Collegiate Award.
Matsuzawa in the midst of a record-breaking season, going a perfect 22-for-22 on field goals while setting a UH football record for single-season field goals, making him one of only three FBS kickers still without a miss. In October, he was selected to numerous midseason All-America teams including the Associated Press, The Athletic, Athlon Sports, CBS Sports, Sports Illustrated and the Sporting News.
Nicknamed the “Tokyo Toe,” Matsuzawa has gained national attention for his remarkable journey in Division I football. His story has been highlighted by major outlets including CNN, ESPN, NBCNightly News, The Athletic, the Wall Street Journal and numerous Japanese media.
Matsuzawa is the Rainbow Warriors’ first Lou Groza semifinalist since Matthew Shipley in 2021 and 2023. Three finalists will be announced November 25 with the winner announced live on ESPN on December 12.
