Santa Claus in the world! Águeda’s Christmas lights
will be switched on at 6 pm, including this giant Santa Claus. Let’s see how Águeda opens
its Christmas celebrations. According to Guinness World Records, the Santa Claus is 21.08
meters (69.2 ft) tall, and 9.18 meters (30.1 ft) wide. It weighs about 8 tons. There are 250,000 LED lights on the structure! You can visit the giant Santa Claus… …and the rest of Águeda’s Christmas
decorations until January 11. The event was also meant to include
a beautiful Christmas parade… …filled with characters
celebrating the festive season, but, unfortunately, it had to be
postponed due to today’s heavy rain. That’s also why I didn’t use my drone, it could rain at any moment,
and the drone isn’t waterproof. Águeda is also home to the
world’s smallest Santa Claus, but you won’t spot it with the naked eye. The minuscule version is
a sculpture so small… …that it fits in the eye of a needle, and can only be seen under a microscope! You can find the minuscule Santa
Claus at the tourist office. Águeda is located 250 km
(155 miles) north of Lisbon, and 75 km (47 mi) south of Porto. I visited Águeda on a sunny
day in September 2023. The link to that video is
in the description below. “Agitágueda” is Águeda’s
annual summer festival, and it is the reason the city
became known worldwide… …for its floating umbrellas. In its early years, organizers
needed a simple visual idea… …that could give the festival
a recognizable identity. They chose umbrellas. The umbrellas were hung above
a few streets to create color, attract attention, and set a
playful tone for the event. The effect was stronger than expected. Photos of the floating umbrellas
spread around the world. Today, Águeda and the

O MAIOR Pai Natal do Mundo! Águeda, Portugal

Águeda, essa pequena cidade que decidiu que ser discreta não lhe ficava bem, resolveu competir com o próprio Polo Norte. Se o Pai Natal original vive numa cabana rodeada de renas, aqui ele aparece em versão XXL: 21 metros de altura, 8 toneladas de peso e 250 mil luzes LED — um verdadeiro colosso natalício que faria inveja até ao Cristo-Rei.
O Guinness já lhe deu o título, mas a sátira é inevitável: o maior Pai Natal do mundo parece mais uma instalação de engenharia civil do que uma figura festiva. É como se a Câmara Municipal tivesse dito: “Se não podemos ter neve, teremos pelo menos um Pai Natal que dá sombra a meio concelho.”
E claro, o povo reúne-se em massa para assistir ao acender das luzes, como se fosse um ritual pagão em honra do LED. A chuva estraga a parada, mas não o espetáculo: afinal, quem precisa de personagens natalícios quando já se tem um gigante vermelho a vigiar a cidade?
Para equilibrar a megalomania, Águeda também exibe o Pai Natal mais pequeno do mundo, escondido no buraco de uma agulha. Uma espécie de ironia oficial: do macro ao micro, a cidade garante que ninguém fica sem Pai Natal, seja em tamanho industrial ou microscópico.
E assim, Águeda confirma a sua vocação: primeiro foram os guarda-chuvas flutuantes, agora é o Pai Natal monumental. A cidade não se limita a celebrar o Natal — ela transforma-o em espetáculo de proporções épicas, onde tradição e exagero se dão as mãos. No fundo, é isso que torna Águeda inesquecível: um lugar onde até o Pai Natal precisa de grua para se levantar.

Boa tarde Miguel, que bela surpresa essa de Águeda, já tinha visto esses guarda chuvas suspensos só que não tinha gu-
ardado o nome da cidade. Pode-se dizer que Águeda está para Portugal, como Itu está para o Brasil, cidade do interior de
SP, tudo lá é exagerado desde um orelhão(telefone antigo), até os sands nos bares e outras coisas exageradas, e pequeno
só mesmo o nome da cidade, mas gostei de ver que pela primeira vez não escutei muitas vozes estrangeiras. Abçs.
