The face of utter disappointment. Avoid this in Nagasaki (#025)
[Music] I think I just got I just had the most formal argument in in my entire life. Yeah. So, finally on the track to Dejima outpost. If I see this man, I instantly get ghost of sushima wipes. And here we are. Welcome to Chinatown. [Music] Welcome another day in Nagazaki. Hello from the beautiful port of Nagazaki. Behind me is the Nagazaki Bridge. And today we are going to Gonkajima, which is a an old coal mining facility. It’s kind of like a huge, it looks like a huge uh battleship out of concrete and it’s a lost place and people used to live there, work there in the coal mines and uh I’m so excited to see it. It’s also a very uh yeah very very famous love place. Actually James Bond was uh shot there. Um I think it was Skyfall. Uh the one with the villain who has this uh list from the MI6. I don’t know. Watch the movie. I think it’s Sky. So yeah, that’s where we’re going today. Now on the way to the pier where we’re uh supposed to leave. And uh there could be a slight chance they don’t board the uh the island, but I don’t think it will happen today. Today looks like a super calm, beautiful day, even out of sea. I guess if you can see, there’s not a single cloud in the sky. So I think it will be fine. So yeah, let’s let’s enjoy it. Let’s go. Okay. And off we go finally cuz the sun is so scorching, man. But it will be even more scorching probably on Bajima. Fore [Music] [Music] go with AC. Security. [Music] [Music] [Music] Yeah, I’m not going to lie. I’m absolutely disappointed. like they um always behold the right of not boarding the island. But uh the the the criteria are not met. They will not uh you know board the island. But it’s like you know 0 uh uh waves calm wind and and also you can but you can see at least 500 m But uh honestly, I mean, look at the sea. There aren’t any better conditions and they still didn’t. So, I’m really super pissed and disappointed. I tried to get a refund. I mean, I’m capable of at least 10%, but I actually want more because this whole thing felt like wasting or wasting your time. I think I just got I just had the most formal argument in my entire life because uh I cannot speak Japanese. I had to, you know, I tip everything in a translator and uh yeah, present my my my statement because uh I was really pissed, you know, about the uh Kunganima uh ferry ride because uh they have they they say they, you know, they have the last right or the last say if they actually board the the island. And uh then they also have like a paperwork where they say like you know like less five 5 m per second less wind than or like less wind than 5 m/ second. Then the second thing is they say for example at least 500 m visibility and also the the the waves uh are not allowed to be higher than 0.5 everything with five you know some kind of feel like some kind of arguments and um pretty much uh you know we went out to the sea and there were perfect conditions man you know like the the sea was almost even you know it’s almost like a even as a as the as the floor. Uh there was zero wind. There was super visibility. Like it’s it’s clearer than it could ever been. And for some reason, they just decided no, we we don’t board it. And for me, it was a huge waste of time because if I would have known that, you know, maybe if I would have seen the sea would get rough or something like that, I would have totally understood it, you know, but uh I I could not see it, you There was there every criteria they every criteria they said was met and then they still decided they just circle around which was super boring for me because I cannot understand Japanese nor Chinese and uh those are the only two um people who like two the only two uh storytellers they have. So for me it was kind of a waste of time because I could have known better, you know, and uh yeah, so I just went at the counter and uh pretty much yeah, I had like I think this was like 15 minutes or 20 minutes an argument about uh that I want a full refund. They they offer like 10% refund or something and I said no, this is not enough. if I want the full refund because uh honestly this is kind of uh like uh I it felt like a scam to be honest and uh yeah so you know I I put my arguments in like uh in my translator um you know presenting it then they presented their other stuff and then it’s so funny man you know they they came up with different arguments uh which were not part of the thing and I said hey this that doesn’t matter for me. you presented a specific piece of paper with specific uh you know uh requirements in order to board the island which were met. I mean guys look at the sea. Okay, this is harbor but it was also the same outside. Look at the sea. Look how even it is. You can’t you there’s no way you can tell me that there today are not perfect conditions. There’s almost zero wind and usually on the coast there’s always wind and uh yeah also the waist there’s nothing you know every criteria has met. We have super clear sky and yeah I you know had a super uh what’s it called? Uh and then uh yeah I was just arguing with them you know without a single tone only you know writing the stuff down and uh yeah could I could manage to get 50% back which is still kind of a scam in my opinion but uh yeah you know I was kind of tired at at this point like for 30 minutes I was arguing so I thought this is the the best the better option actually. But anyways, so since we still have some time today, I decided I totally forgot that uh uh Nagazaki also has the Deji outpost which is like the when back in the day Japan uh opened like its uh borders kind of it gates to um international trade. The Deji outpost was the first uh outpost that was open for foreigners and I think it was only for the Portuguese because the Portuguese were the first no the Dutch. It was open for the Dutch. So yeah, um I think they first u uh uh traded with the Dutch and then with the Portuguese and uh yeah they have they had like in actually in Nagazaki they have a specific uh outpost for that you know it it was like on a on an on on a peninsula and uh to still to this day I think it’s functioning more like a you know tourist attraction and landmark but uh yeah I’m going to check it out. [Music] Yeah. So, finally on the track to Dejima outpost. This is it. And there you can enter. [Music] Oh, actually pedestrians have even priority from uh Trumps. I didn’t expect that. Like in Germany, it’s the other way around. [Music] Yeah. So, this is the first training outpost. Wow. Yeah. So, it was the Dutch and not the Portuguese. I wonder what’s up there. Of course. Oh, wow. You can jump on. [Music] So this was actually a maze room since the Dutch they could not bring their families and the only women that were allowed here were Japanese cortisans and yeah that’s where they that’s where they slept and uh lived They even have cannons here. [Music] You could slap someone with that. Wow. What a cannon. Imagine it’s 17 or 1,600 something and your ships just got hit with that cannon. Cannon. Okay. Wow. So, this is like a typical furniture of back in the day. I don’t know, man. This looks so cool. If you ask me, this looks so cool. If I see this man, I instantly get coast of Sushima wipes. Okay. Now I think this is the old part that was burnt down but still some parts are uh preserved today. Oh, cool. There’s like a replica of the former outpost. Check it out. So, this is how it was back in the day. Really cool. This the Dejima trading outpost. And since we already had so much culture today, uh let’s go now to the Chinese or like to Chinatown which is just around the corner. Actually, uh, when I looked up my hostel, it’s actually inside the Japanese quarter. So, let’s go. And here we are. Welcome to Chinatown. What I kind of noticed is um I feel like most of the shops are closed. like not only here in Chinatown but in general Nagasaki in the area where my hotel is or like my hostel is uh located I think mostly is closed here and there some some food shops or food stores but besides that all closed see closed even though they have very very delicious stuff here. [Music] Yeah, I’m getting hungry, man. Definitely should eat something. So, also closed. [Music] This song, if you hear this classic song, this kind of sounds like a bootleg version of the King of the Line. Can you keep feel the love tonight? Listen. And it kings and vagabons would not surprise me. Yeah, that’s already it. Actually, Chinatown is very very small. It’s just a small just one block with one uh west east street and one north south street. That’s about it. It’s all sold out. going to lie, this looks very, very tasty. Especially this one. Shrimp and tomato sauce. I think I’ll Yeah, I think I go for that. Let’s go. Hi. Okay. [Music] Wow, man. So much culture today. So much culture. Culture sounds so German, but I’m German. Anyway, I think that’s it for today. I saw a lot and I’m tired of vlogging. So, Nagazaki is very very is a very very uh interesting city for sure. If you once in Japan, check it out. And uh yeah, that’s it for today. As always, if you like what you see, please leave a like or subscribe for more videos to come. And uh yeah, that’s that’s it. Also, this is actually my my last video from Japan, probably. Oh, no. I have one or two more in common. But uh yeah, I I I can’t I can’t believe that I finally, you know, managed to uh travel the whole of Japan starting from uh Sapurro and I think in uh Nagazaki. Wow. 90 days, 3 months and I’m done. So yeah, that’s it for now. See you.
I wanted to visit Hashima Island (also known as Gunkanjima), a very iconic place ashore from Nagasaki. However, with the remaining time i also visited the Dejima Trading outpost and Nagasaki’s chinatown. Check out the full Video!
