Back in May 2024, we reported that Mui, a modern Japanese-inspired restaurant, would be joining the Pike & Rose lineup in North Bethesda. Earlier this year, the project took a major step forward when the restaurant secured a construction permit valued at $550,000 in February. Now, Mui has its hearing for a new Liquor License (On-Sale Only) for its future home at 967 Rose Avenue.

According to The List Are You On It, Mui currently carries a projected opening of Winter 2025, though an early 2026 opening appears more realistic based on the project’s timeline. The restaurant will occupy an 8,506 square foot space formerly home to The Block, located next to West Elm.

Federal Realty describes Mui as a fine-dining Japanese concept with a menu that blends non-traditional Japanese dishes with traditional kaiseki, sushi, and omakase sourced from Japan. The beverage program will include an agave, scotch, and sake selection curated by a trained mixologist, along with an extensive list of champagne, wine, and cocktails.

Mui’s signature feature will be its omakase experience, a chef-guided tasting where diners interact directly with the chef as they craft curated sushi selections. The restaurant plans to offer signature tastings, sushi, and a seasonal omakase, marketed as the “Ultimate Sushi Experience.” We’ll share more updates as Mui continues to progress toward its opening at Pike & Rose.
