Danish brewing giant Carlsberg is reportedly weighing the sale of part of its Asian operations, with Japanese company Sapporo Holdings emerging as the leading candidate for a potential deal, according to sources cited by Bloomberg News.

The two parties are said to be in discussions, with Sapporo leaning towards acquiring a minority stake in Carlsberg’s Asian business.

Sources indicate that the transaction may not proceed if the parties fail to reach an agreement on ownership structure and other key terms.

Sapporo Holdings’ interest in Carlsberg’s Asian operations comes as the Japanese company prioritizes its beer business, concentrated in Sapporo Breweries, over its real estate arm, Sapporo Real Estate, which is currently being divested.

In 2023, Sapporo Breweries announced a business partnership with Carlsberg for the production and sale of Sapporo beer in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.
