Osaka Station Guide: NO MORE Umeda Dungeon! Easiest Transfers to Kyoto, USJ & KIX
Welcome to JR Osaka Station, the gateway to
your Kai journey. Are you worried about the complexity of the area known as the Boumeta
Dungeon? For family travelers, getting lost at the very start of your trip is the last thing you
want. Don’t worry. As professional travel agents, we’ve condensed only the most essential points
you need to start your trip smoothly, safely, and without confusion. No extra information.
Learn the true role of Osaka Station, the shortest routes to Kyoto,
Kobe, and Universal Studios Japan, and the vital functions you need immediately
upon arrival, securing cash and storing your luggage. Master these essential pieces of
information and start your journey right away. First, you must understand this. Osaka
Station is both a major sightseeing hub for Osaka and a massive transfer
hub for the entire Concai region. Many people get confused because they mix up JR
Osaka station with the adjacent private railway and subway stations collectively known as Umea
station. Only the JR station is called Osaka station. All others are Umea station. Please be
careful about this distinction. For family travel, simply focusing on the JR station structure
dramatically reduces the risk of getting lost. The upper floor gates offer open views and provide
easy access to the station’s directly connected large commercial facilities. The lower floor gates
are mainly divided into three exits. The central exit leads to shopping areas. The Mitsuji exit is
best for transferring to other private railways and subways, and the Securabashi exit is suitable
for reaching nearby hotels. If you don’t want to get lost, remember to only use the JR station
buildings and the areas around the platforms. Next, we will focus only on the fastest and most
efficient routes to your next destination. After passing through the ticket gate, check the display
signs above to find the platform for your specific destination. To Kyoto or Shinosaka, trains depart
from platforms 7 through 10. There are three types of trains: local, rapid, and special rapid. Since
Shinosaka station is only one stop away and all trains stop there, you can take the train that
departs the earliest. Kyoto station takes about 30 minutes to reach. Because of the distance, please
take the special rapid to Kobe or he trains depart from platforms 3 through 6. By taking the special
rapid service, you will arrive at Santaia Kobe in about 20 minutes. The regular rapid service is
not significantly different for Santaia. However, Himeji takes 60 minutes even on the special rapid.
So, you must take it to Universal Studios Japan, which families use most frequently. Take the Osaka
loop line from platform 1. Get off at Nishikujo station and take the train that arrives across
the platform. A direct service that requires no transfer passes through occasionally, but the
number of trains is small. The journey takes about 15 minutes. Tara, Wakayama, or Kai airport. This
is complicated so please be careful. Those going to Nara should take the Yamatoji rapid service.
Those going to Kai airport or Wakayama or should take the Kai airport Kishuji rapid. Both services
depart from platform 1. Your destination changes after Tanoji station. So if you are getting
off before then at Shinimamia or Nishikujo, you do not need to worry about the
final destination. Furthermore, here is one extremely important precaution.
The Kangu or Wakayama rapid service trains split at a station along the way. The cars from
the fourth car forward go to Kansai airport and the cars from the fifth car back go to Nar. Since
boarding the wrong car can cause major trouble, you must confirm the destination signs
written on the floor or on the train cars before you board. Remembering these four
routes will cover all your access needs. Finally, we will introduce the three essential
functions of Osaka station that we as travel agents want you to know. Since everything can
be solved by exiting the central gate, you don’t need to worry about getting lost. If you wish to
exchange your JR pass or arrange express train tickets, look for the Madori Nomadaguchi green
ticket office located near the central gate. It is directly opposite the gate. However, this location
is always busy, especially in the evening. It is better to complete this process at another station
if possible. Cash is often required in Japan. As there are many 7-Eleven stores at the station,
using the ATM there is the most reliable option. There is one store across from the central exit
which has two ATMs making withdrawal smooth. Inside the station, one is also available
just before you exit the securabashi gate. Large suitcases will quickly become a hindrance.
Coin lockers are located at the end of the passageway next to the Madori Nomadaguchi.
If these are full, turn left. There is a store-style location where you can check your
luggage. Incidentally, you will also find a restroom and another ATM along that street. This
second option might be better for those who want to handle luggage and cash at the same time.
With this guide, the basics of Osaka station are now perfect. This knowledge will significantly
save you travel time and allow you to enjoy your journey more fully. For those who want more depth
