Street Food Tour of Osaka, Japan’s kitchen

Good afternoon from Osaka, Japan. Just left my hotel, walking down to Danton Bari. And today I got a special video planned. I’m going to be doing an Asaka street food tour. So super hungry. Got about a two-mile walk, 3 kilometer walk there. So hopefully I’ll work up an appetite and um be able to try a bunch of different foods and bring you along with me. Show you what I’m eating, show you a little history about it. We’ll go from there. Made a little pit stop on the way. Stopped into one of my favorite establishments in all of Japan, 7-Eleven. I picked up this Picari sweat, which is one of my favorite drinks I can get here. It’s sort of like a Gatorade. Less sweet, less calories. It’s very refreshing, and it uh does the trick. Highly suggest trying it when you’re here. I’ll continue along my journey. [Music] [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Okay, I just got down to Don Ponbur to start this food tour. It’s very packed here today, but I think I saw what I want to start with first. I’ll take you there now. [Music] Hey, [Music] [Applause] So, I’m going with the Kobe beef premium steak skewer, which is 5,000 yen. So, I’m going big on this first one. That’s about 30 bucks. So, should be really good, though. They recommended it, and I’m excited for it. But, uh, the rest of this food tour will be getting gradually cheaper than this. All right, so this is what 5,000 yen gets you. $32.60 get you. It’s not very big, but we’re going to give it a try first without the sauce. See how it is. Oh, I get it. That is melt in your mouth good. Now, a little fact about Kobe beef cows. annually. There’s only between 5,000 and 5,500 that are approved to be used for the the Kobe beef steaks. Has to be It’s all about the marbling and um it’s probably where a lot of the price is built into this. It’s definitely part of the marbling. So, let’s give it a try with some of the sauce here. Excuse me. It’s lovely. Would I do it again? Yeah, I would. Probably in Coobe, though. I don’t think I would do it here again in Osaka. But this is definitely good. Worth the price. Unique. Once in a lifetime thing. Well, twice in a lifetime, I guess, because I’ll be doing this one more time. But I’m gonna finish this off and we’re going to step to the next booth and try something else here on this food tour. And for this next one, I’m rolling back the budget a little bit. And I got this for 150 yen from Family Mart. So, I’m cheating, but it’s still on the strip here. And it’s looks good. It’s a soy chicken soy sauce. 150 yen. A little bit less than a dollar. See how it is. Underrated. Very good. [Music] [Music] On to the next. [Applause] [Music] Next, I got the takayyaki octopus balls I tried before. And again, these are,000° inside. This time they put the fish flakes in. I didn’t tell them not to. So, I’m just going to roll the punches on this one. I’m going to let it give it a few minutes, let it cool down cuz like I said, it’s about as hot as the sun right now. But I’m going to dig into this as soon as I get get a chance. All right, here we go. It’s still steaming here, so hopefully it’s not too bad, but we’ll give it a try here. Hot, hot, hot. Good. Very hot. That’s defin takyaki. It’s awesome. The little octopus balls with I don’t know, wheat coating and some mayonnaise, Japanese mayonnaise and uh some fish flakes. They’re solid. Definitely give them a try when you’re here. [Music] All right, this next street food dish here is just a grilled shrimp skewer. It was 1,000 yen, which is like $6.50, something like that. Let’s see how it goes. [Music] [Music] Yeah, nothing too exotic. Just basic shrimp. It’s all right, though. Got a good grill flavor to it. [Music] On to the next one. Okay, next I’ve got the kurag, which is Japanese fried chicken on a stick here. I got to find a place to kind of pony up to eat this, so give me a minute here. Okay, the kurag. Let’s dig into this. Let’s give it a try. 700 yen. I don’t know. Like 450. It’s not very good. I’ll tell you why. It’s like lukewarm. Barely above room temperature. But if it was fresh, it’d be pretty good. But this is just a little disappointing. It’s big portion though for the price. It’s it’s it’s good, but it just needs to be fresh. That’s all. [Music] One more thing about that fried chicken, then I’m going to put it behind me. That fried chicken was also a lot of breading. It wasn’t a ton of meat on that, so it was a lot to work around to get to the the meat. But hey, it’s fine. We tried it. We don’t have to ever do it again. [Music] See those prices on the produce? A,000 yen for like 10 grapes or 100 yen of grape. It’s It’s incredible. and like a whole bunch was like 3,000 yen. So, a little vines worth. It’s like $20. It’s insane. I don’t know why their produce here is so expensive, but everything else is uh is a lot a lot more reasonably priced. Yet, everyone here seems to be thin. I don’t know. Maybe that’s where they’re putting all their money is into expensive produce. [Music] [Applause] [Music] This next dish I ended up getting, it’s a crab leg. Tempora battered crab leg. It’s 800 yen. So, it’s $5.20. I’m not convinced that this is real crab. It says it is. The guy said it was. But for $5.20 20 cents for giant crab leg. I I I just I’m just not buying it. But regardless, I even like imitation crab, so let’s go for it. Got a little bit of mayo to dip it into. Okay, that’s too that’s too hot. That’s too hot. I’m going to wait. [Music] Hi. Good. But again, I’m not convinced it’s real crab. No, there’s no way it doesn’t taste like real crab. Still good. Still not bad. This is probably going to wrap up my Asaka street food tour. Unless there’s something else I walk across and find buying that I want to have, but probably not. It’s probably going to be the last of it. So, I hope you had fun watching this one. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] Yeah. I’m not playing that [ __ ] game of those guys. No, thank you. [Music] Walking back to the hotel. Leaving the Donberry Burray area, Osaka. Tonight was fun. Got to try a lot of foods. It wasn’t very fulfilling. I can tell you that as far as the different variety of foods. A little heavy for my taste. But anyway, yeah. Just going to walk home. We got another mile and a half or so and I’m going to call it a night. I slept like [ __ ] last night, so hopefully I get a good night’s sleep tonight. But thank you for watching. This is Saka Street Food Tour. And there’ll be more coming soon. So, please subscribe, like, comment, and share. And I’ll be catching up to you guys later. More coming from Japan. Good night.

  2. You should check out Steakland Kobe when you visit Kobe and try their lunch special. Very good and affordable. Located near Kobe-Sannomiya Sta.

  3. If it's domestic fruit/veggies, then the prices will be high due to labor and production costs. Definitely the best quality, for sure. My wife's sister works part-time picking fruit in Yamagata and sends us cherries and grapes at employee discount.
