If you’ve been planning a trip to Japan soon, here’s something to keep in mind: the Land of the Rising Sun is set to increase its visa fees starting fiscal year 2026. This marks the first hike in nearly half a century.

Currently, a single-entry Japanese visa costs around ₱1,140, which is significantly lower than the cost of US, UK, or EU visas. For comparison: a US visa costs roughly ₱11,650, a UK visa about ₱9,780, and an EU visa around ₱6,400.
Revisions will also impact fees for foreign nationals applying to change or renew their residence status. According to the government, the fee adjustment aligns with costs in other major countries and will help fund measures to tackle overtourism—a rising concern in popular Japanese destinations.
While the Japanese government hasn’t announced the new rate yet, they are expected to take effect in April 2026, so those planning trips next year may want to consider applying sooner rather than later.
