Thai police have arrived in Japan to cooperate with an investigation into a possible case of human trafficking involving a 12-year-old girl who was allegedly forced to provide sexual services in Tokyo.
The manager of a private-room massage parlor in Tokyo was arrested on suspicion of coercing the girl to engage in the services, in violation of the Labor Standards Act.
The girl’s mother, who left her daughter at the massage parlor and left Japan, is currently being detained in Taiwan.
Tokyo Metropolitan Police are looking into the mother’s involvement, as the case may amount to human trafficking.
The Thai police officials visited the National Police Agency on Tuesday with a view to cooperating in the investigations.
They discussed the girl’s current situation and how to proceed with the investigation with senior NPA officials.
The Thai police, the NPA and Tokyo police are due to hold talks as early as Wednesday. The Japanese authorities are expected to ask the Thai police for clearance to investigate the mother.
