Unique Kyoto Food Journey 🇯🇵 +prices | Hidden Gems, Nishiki Market & Traditional Eats You Can’t Miss

Oh man, this meat [Music] exceptionally good. The shrimp is quite um fresh as well. So I like it. Cheers. Oh god, it’s perfection. This beef is so tender. It might be the most tender beef I tried in my life. [Music] It’s super delicious. You know what? This is really special. [Music] Welcome to the next city, Kyoto. Join us for our food journey in this amazing city. The best way to get to Kyoto from Tokyo is of course by the legendary bullet train. Fast, smooth, and definitely part of the Japan experience. Oh, what a morning, guys. Uh, we tried to use metro to go Tokyo station, but then the metro was out of service. We had to change the line, but luckily we made the bullet train on time, but it was stressful. So, our tip, just try to wake up earlier. If you train in the morning, we just generally come to Tokyo station early. Yeah. Make sure to plan like 30 minutes uh spare time for that. Yeah. And uh in the station you can buy food and coffee as well. And also as you can see, maybe difficult for you to see, but no shows. It’s quite uh a lot of space between the seats. So I think if you want to sleep on the train, you’ll have enough space. Yeah. It’s like a business class on the airplane. Yes. On the way to Kyoto, we got to see a different side of Japan. Peaceful countryside, mountains, and even another glimpse of the beautiful Mount Fuji. What was impressive that we departed on time and also arrived on time. So, Deian should learn from this. So, we have arrived to Kyoto and of course the first thing what we’re going to do is to go for lunch. Let’s go. So, we just came out of Kyoto station and at the beginning seemed to be busy, but 10 minutes walk and it’s pretty quiet already. For our first lunch in Kyoto, we decided to stop by Tomura Ramen, a cozy local spot that looked really inviting. So, the first place we came, it’s a ramen place. So they claimed that it’s traditional Kyoto style ramen and we ordered more like traditional way. Um I think just pork with some toppings and soy sauce and ordered spicy ramen because I like spicy food. So we’re looking forward to have our lunch in Kyoto. [Music] So we got our food and you see as I said I I get I got a spicy ramen. Looks like a lot of chili on top. But I know some people cannot eat spicy, but I love it. Let’s try a bit of broth first. Oh, tastes different like one way in Tokyo. I know the broth is a bit different. I think they put some soy sauce and um obviously chili gives a lot of taste. And um now let’s um try some ramen noodles to taste a bit more properly [Music] and a bit of onion. [Music] It’s very delicious and spicy to the level I like. So, not very typical, I think, um, ramen that we can try here, but for the spicy lovers, I think it’s really good. And for some pork, let’s try it. Looks quite thick, but also seems like it’s tending. [Music] Very tender. I love it. Yeah. some chili stuck in my throat, but it is good. Trust me. So, I ordered something uh classic from Kyoto ramen. So, let’s try with a broth. [Music] Super rich flavor. full of onions taste which I like. It’s different from other ramen shops and but to be honest, every ramen shop has different ramen taste. Um yeah, I love it. It’s really good. It’s really delicious. [Music] Let me try this uh pork. very tender. [Music] What I like the most is it’s not that tender. The weather is so rainy outside and we still have one more hour before we check in in our hotel. But uh luckily we found some coffee shop not far in our area where we’re going to stay in Guon. And um we had some coffee. I ordered iced coffee and no ordered um matcha latte hot one I think. Yeah, we are in Japan. So why not? Yes. And in general, you know, I really like to design this coffee shop, you know, with the plants and also the view to the rainy Kyoto. Looks uh really nice. And of course, let’s test this coffee whether it’s good or not. It’s a bit um smokeoky so quite strong roast like very heavy roast but I like it. I think it’s um what we need to boost our energy before afternoon. Has been a long trip from Tokyo to Kyoto. Uh and now I’m happy to here enjoy my matcha. Very good matcha. I love matcha in Japan. So every time I got a chance to order matcha latte, I will do it. Probably will buy some here to bring to Germany to make some matcha latte on my own. So we just checked into our hotel in um Kyoto. Looks pretty decent. A little bit bigger than Tokyo, so we are pretty happy. So pretty spacious room for Japanese standards. We also have safe. We have a coffee maker, kettle, everything we need for three night stay in Kyoto and separate bathroom and so actually um Kyoto looks like this. Looks pretty ancient and more like traditional Japanese. It’s a very different vibe from Tokyo, but it’s kind of cute. I mean, I like it. It’s less chaotic and also I think we can learn more about Japanese culture here. Look at this shrine. It looks really nice. Although Kyoto first felt much calmer than Tokyo, after some time the streets got pretty crowded too. Still, the city keeps a charm, especially when the lights come on and everything starts to glow in the evening. So now we are going to try Wu burger. I know that burger is not a dish that was invented in Japan. But I think trying with Wu is a must. Especially if you’re a burger lover. I think it’s good. We order from the machine here. Yes. So, we have made our order. I ordered a cheeseburger, double cheeseburger with Woo beef with um obviously French fries and some uh beer actually from from this brand, Sugar Burger. Let’s try. I’m quite curious cuz this beer is quite expensive. It’s like 900 yen for this. So, let’s try. [Music] It’s um very good quality lagger to some extent. Reminds me of Brooklyn Lagger from New York. Good, good beer. I like it. It smells really good here as well. It does smell really good. So, I do have high expectation because burger it’s just one of my favorite food. Thank you. Thank you. [Music] So, we got the burger. Oh, look. looks so juicy and cheesy. So, it’s double cheeseburger and it’s full of cheese and full of um um liquid. So, it’s quite uh juicy. Let’s try. [Music] Oh, [Music] it’s full of cheese. I love it. The beef is so super flavorful and cheesy on top. Let’s try one more bite. [Music] Oh, super good. It’s the beef. It’s um medium medium um rare cooked. You see, it’s not like super well done, but it’s good. A lot of cheese and salad. The combinations is amazing really. But it’s all about beef to be honest. Beef makes difference. It is different uh from normal beef. This a way burger. So yes, it’s um it tastes like very good steak, but means one, you know, like I would not say like it tastes like wiggo beef, but that tastes very good. Like honestly, I think it’s definitely worth trying if you’re in Japan because I think Wu beef um makes it a bit special. Cannot wait to try it. smell. So good. [Music] So good. It’s super juicy. You see juicy, cheesy, and high quality of meat. I like it. Actually, the more we eat this burger, the more we taste um white goo. So, it’s like a kobi beef and um honestly, it makes difference. The beef itself tastes so good. And with the combination of tomato and cheese salad, really good stuff, guys. Really, you should try it. And this is the one of the most juicy burgers I have ever eaten in my life. Super juicy and a really high quality to your beef. I love it. Yes, juicy. And the beef. The beef is just amazing. Super delicious. So guys, I honestly have to say that it’s one of the best burgers I really tried in my life. And um it’s can be comparable to Emily Burger in New York and also to some of the best burgers in Munich like a and the others. So, I really recommend you to try it just because if you’re a burger fan, it will not disappoint you because the beef is so good and so juicy and it might be really one of the juiciest burger have tried. So, I honestly recommend I as a burger lover, I like it. Me, too. Even though I’m not a crazy fan of burgers. Although we were already full after the delicious burger, we spotted a small kiosk selling the freshest onigiri. And of course, we couldn’t resist grabbing another snack. We just love Japan for the moments like this. So, after eating this burger, um we walked around and everything smells so good. Although we are full, but you know when you smell something in Japan, you kind of don’t have choice. You just have to eat because it smells so good. And this time we found some um handmade uniiri with um with eel on top or unagi as they call it. I think some egg inside or I’m not sure what is that but it smells so good guys. Really my stomach is full to be honest but I have to try it. It tastes different from 7-Eleven. It’s really good. I don’t know. Egg and unagi makes a bit different and less dry, you know. It’s quite juicy in comparison to the one you can buy from supermarket. It’s really good. But I suggest you in order to enjoy it properly, don’t eat a heavy dinner um before this like we did. But in general, it tastes really good. Quite a good snack. I’m really full now, but we are in Japan, so it would be a crime not to eat this only biri. So smells so good. I cannot wait to try it. You know what? This is really special. I think they this uh leaf is like similar to Thai basil. It’s actually like um make the taste way stronger and combined with a fresh um unagi and other ingredients is make it the perfect. It’s like um even though I’m really full, I still can easily eat the whole uh snack. It’s must try. Yeah. So, it was quite a productive day. We travel from Tokyo to Kyoto. We had an amazing walk and food tour around Kyoto. And now it’s kind of time to sleep. But before that, we decided to have some sake, some new type of sake. Like this one also from 7-Eleven. should be good I guess but you never know I guess with sake 100%. Another thing which we got is um like a it is not like dessert like a frozen fruit which is um shine muscat grape very popular in Japan and it’s frozen. So uh people say it’s very sweet naturally sweet so I actually cannot wait to try it because should be something really special. So let’s open it. Oh, they pack it really well. Here you see the package and let’s open it. Yeah, looks like a a normal grape but a little bit softer. So, let’s try. It’s very sweet. Although it’s a bit soft, but still crispy, you know, on the outside, but it’s a bit cold because it was obviously in the freezer. But it’s a grape ice cream, but it’s just pure grape. Tastes really good, actually. Pretty sweet. I don’t know. It’s um it’s pretty pretty good snack before you go to to to bed. And then let’s try a little bit of sake. We haven’t tried uh uh this um type yet. Smells like classic sake. I would say a little bit of fruiness in the smell. Let’s put a bit sake. Yeah. Smells a little bit fruity. So, let’s try. Cheers. Actually, this one tastes a little bit different. I don’t know. It alcohol level it’s a bit um less I think than before but um it does feel strong actually when when you drink it but at the same time it’s quite fruity so I think it’s a perfect uh drink before you go to to sleep. We’re starting the day with espresso coffee from the hotel. Not a typical thing we usually do but they offer this for free which is very nice. So why not to use this opportunity? After a quick coffee at the hotel, we went to explore Sanju Sanendu Temple. It’s surrounded by beautiful green trees and the temple itself looks truly magnificent. Unfortunately, filming inside is not allowed, so you can see the famous Buddha status, but the atmosphere there is absolutely unforgettable. Time for breakfast for lunch at my favorite corner smoothie. I’m going to take some uh veggie smoothie. Oh, they do not have it. I hear in uh in Japan um the vegetables are really expensive. So this is the way for me the break is take some beer in 711. Today we can take some asaki beer. One of the classics in Japan. Let’s go to pay. [Music] I’m doing this like a pro now every day. So just wait for the magic to be done. And then I got this uh fresh smoothie. Good for digesting. Now, after we got our drinks, we have like 30 minutes walk and we are going to Nishki Market to try some street food. Let’s go. So, we’re entering Nishki Market and it’s time to have a proper lunch. It smells really good here. Too many options to choose. Yeah, I would say good beginning. Mishki Market has so many things to offer from street snacks to local specialties. But to start, we decided to go for some crispy shrimp tempura and freshlymade dumplings. smells so good. So, the first snake which we got is um shrimp tempura. Looks good. And um squid tempura. So, smells so good and really fresh. Oh, it’s really crispy. Look at this. Let’s try. [Music] So fresh and the better part is very crunchy. I really like it actually. Quite a good snack. And the next one is a squid tempura. Actually first time of trying squid tempura. So, let’s try. Very crunchy as well, but I haven’t tried the piece of squid yet. So, it’s good also. Very, very fresh on really delicious. I love it. We also ordered this juicy explosive dumplings. They said uh with pork and vegetables inside. So, let me try it. They put some sauces on top. So, really really juicy. I think I might like this uh version of dumplings more than uh guoza. It’s juicier, but maybe just my um personal feeling at this moment so good. So juicy. Look with pork and vegetables. I like I like it. I love it. It’s killing So, no said it’s very good. So, I also cannot wait to try it. And uh it smells really different. So, let’s try this juicy explosion pork dumplings. I won’t try the juice, but it um tastes really good. Let’s try with meat. [Music] It’s super delicious. Super juicy. And I think some strong flavor of cabbage and pork. I love it. I’m a dumplings lover. So this dumplings is really top. Love it. And of course, now we ordered Kobe Wigu beef. We’re in Japan. I mean, why not? It’s it’s delicious. And you cannot find that easy this type of meat in Germany. Almost impossible, right? And how can you walk by and not get a skewer with A5 Kobe Vagu? It’s just impossible to resist. The smell alone makes you stop. So, we’ve got um our Kobe um grilled beef with some Japanese paper on top. This the i5 uh rating. So, so the best one of the best the best white beef for sure available. Oh, smells really good actually. Let’s try it. [Music] It’s very good. It’s a bit um sour taste. I think you put some Japanese pepper and some seasoning, but it is really good. I like it. And then it was time for some takoyaki. Freshly made and sizzling hot. So, it’s time for another snack. And this time we’re trying takoyaki with um onion and um mayo. They say it’s the most popular one. So let’s try. [Music] So, it’s actually like a a bowl with the with the octopus or squid and with the onion top. It was really hot the first bite, but in general, it tastes different. It doesn’t taste like typical, I don’t know, donut or something that you may think it is, but it’s it’s different. I like um full flavors of uh octopus, you know. Yeah, it has some piece of octopus inside, but um the better part like the dough, it is different. It’s a bit like more um like I would say less condensed actually than normal uh dough, but it’s good. It’s different. I think these dishes originate from Osaka. And once we’re in Osaka, we definitely you should try it to understand the original flavor. My first time trying How’s inside? Juicy and it’s very different from anything I have tried before. So, but it’s just like um look at this uh better part. It’s a bit um soft and yeah, but full of flavors inside. Juicy and with onion and mayonnaise. I think it’s really good. So, the first bite was super hot. Like, I burned my mouth a bit, but I think I should have been uh uh a bit more careful. So now let’s have one more bite to understand the taste a bit better. It’s quite um strong taste of um of I think have other flavors inside like onion also something red. I’m not sure what is that maybe I don’t know it can be tomato but something else tastes a bit different. So honestly guys it’s something different. And I cannot really say that um it’s something you have tried before like in any country. So I think if you’re in Japan, try to experience it yourself. It’s something really different. And of course, how could we just walk by without trying the freshest sashimi? The colors and freshness were absolutely irresistible. Yeah. So, the next snack is sashimi. Very fresh fish from the same Nishki market. So, let’s maybe start with um salmon. I put a little bit of um wasabi on top. And then we just put a little bit of soy sauce. Looks good. Smells super fresh. Let’s try. The fish is super duper fresh. It’s melting in my mouth. And with wasabi and soy sauce, it just perfection. I love it. And then we also got um tuna. Let’s do the same way with the wasabi and soy sauce. [Music] Let’s try. Also, super fresh. Like very tender. To be honest, like if I didn’t know that the fish is not cooked, I would not believe it because it’s so tender. I have no idea how they cut it this way. Maybe it has something to do with super fresh fish, but it’s really good stuff. And honestly, I didn’t really like sushimi before our trip to Japan, but from now on, I love it. Really good. This sashimi is definitely one of the best I have eaten in Japan. So good. So fresh. Highly recommended. And then it was time to try some authentic Japanese sake. A perfect little sip for the market wipes. Another thing which we’re going to try in Nishki Market, it’s a shot of sake. It’s only 100 yen. So, let’s see. Smells like sake. Oh, I have to say this sake tastes um more like um soft in comparison to the one we buy from 7-Eleven. You can also like um taste a little bit of to my taste. I think it’s grape. I know it’s made of rice, but I think some fruiness in the taste. I don’t know how they managed to make it, but uh it tastes really good. I mean, I’m sake probably is not my favorite drink, but when you’re in Japan, I think it’s a must try, right? It’s a local drink. Such a vibrant market. So, what do you think about this market so far? I like it. I mean, there’s so many options of food. You will never be hungry. I think the only part you should bear in mind it’s very touristic and um it’s very crowded and sometimes you’ll not be able to find um table to sit um at. But in general I like it like in terms of variety. I think this market is really good. You you will never be hungry here. Trust me there’s so many things like takoyaki fresh seafood beef dumplings also other stuff we haven’t seen yet even. So honestly I think you can spend the whole day here at this market and try different things. you will not be bored. So, one of the popular item here is also fruit candy. This is my first time try it here. So, [Music] it’s like a candy bar. Oh, a bit hot. It was caramel. I think like caramelized strawberry, right? Yeah. Yeah. And um very crispy thanks to this sugar coating and the the strawberry itself is really sweet. Actually, I like it. And another thing we got is a cherry blossom wine. So interesting. Let’s try. Very special smell. To be honest, it reminds me of sake. Quite uh quite similar, but I think cherry blossom gives a little bit different taste. I don’t know how to describe it, but it definitely feels something extra, you know, not a pure sake. But not bad to try it once, I would say. And the time for the afternoon mochi. Now it’s time for dessert. And we got some uh strawberry milk mochi. It’s good. I haven’t tried this flavor yet. It’s really good. It doesn’t taste like typical mochi, but um I like it. I think like just a thing for you if you don’t like um um this like beans inside cuz not um everyone can eat it but this one with strawberry tastes really good. Next we visited Fushimi Inara Taiisha Shrine one of Kyoto’s most iconic attractions famous for its thousands of vibrant red to gates. This shrine is really beautiful but so crowded with tourists. So be prepared if you visit it or you can visit it at the very early town to avoid the crowd. Yeah, the shrine is famous for its thousands of bright red gates which form this long stunning corridors that you can walk through. Truly a magical site. For dinner, we headed to Iakiniku restaurant, a traditional Japanese grill where you cook your own meat right at the table. We need to order directly from quite a So David came to very local restaurant, Yakiniku restaurant. So it’s Japanese grill and you know it was suggested by our hotel and they claim that this restaurant is local. Also, we have really high expectation for this. We ordered some wigu beef and also some pork and some kimchi. Smells really good. So, I think it’s going to be good. We really have high expectation for this dinner. And we already got our salad with the first egg. I think it’s cabbage. It’s um fried. [Music] I think quite refreshing side dish for for meat. It’s um a bit sour and I think um It will be good when you eat together with meat. So, we need first to make it oily with interesting way different from what we do in Europe. But I think it actually makes sense. So, it will be more juicy and flavorful because pork um fat it’s quite flavorful. It’s like like a bacon, you know, freshly cut. Let’s start to grill our yakiniko. See the beef? Oh, it’s marbled to perfection. Really grilled this stuff. Look at this. And the chef just put some salt and put some pepper on top. So, let’s uh our first Japanese. [Music] Look at the fire. Smells so good. The first piece is ready and it smells so good. Oh man, let’s try the first bite. I forgot to mention that it’s a Wu beef. So the one most fancy beef in the world and um for the reason that it’s perfectly marbled and juicy. So let’s try It’s very tender. I mean, nothing much apart from salt. For the beef lover, it’s good. To my my taste, I would put a bit of chili maybe, but it’s very juicy and in general, it’s really dissolve in my mouth like really good one. So, we got another type of wipe. Looks like this. Hope not overcooked, but it’s not chef’s sour because we put maybe too long on the grill, but looks good. This one is a bit thicker. Probably slightly different type of the beef. So, let’s um try it. Put a bit on the sauce as they eat, I guess. Let’s try it. Cheers. M. Oh god, it’s perfection. This beef is so tender. It might be the most tender reg beef I tried in my life so far. I mean, I only tried it in Japan, but it’s really so tender. So, so good and juicy as well. Don’t need any sauce for this one, to be honest. It’s so good. I love it. Let me try this one as well. [Music] So good. Yeah, this is really good. And no fat, you know. Just try the balance. I like. And now we’re also grilling some pork with the sauce. It’s good and smells so good. [Music] Now I’m going to show you how to eat the grilled pork Asian way. So professional. This is the salad. You wrap it in a salad. This also have the sauce here. Perfect. [Music] Great balance between the salad and the meat also with the sauce. This sauce also gave a lot of taste. That’s the best way to eat the Korean pork. Now it will the same way smoked be uh in Asian way how to eat it in a white way. So we just put this um in this salad wrap. And I think I’m going to put a little bit of sauce directly. Maybe it will make some difference. I don’t know. But uh we’ll try. Yeah, you can dip the sauce as well. Yeah, let’s try. And you can also try with a bit of soy sauce mix. It’s very good. The pork is very juicy and I was afraid it’s going to be fat, but actually no. fat has melted and the taste is just super juicy and um a bit smoky and with the sauce and salad gives actually it gives like balanced taste like I like it. It’s like playing music with the pork fat on the grill. [Music] And now also put some popcorn and one leaf of kimchi. Experimenting a little bit. I think should be good. How can go wrong? It’s good. It’s a little bit like sour taste and um spicy. Put a bit of as well. Very good. And now we have the last piece of soup. Our favorite beef. This one is the most tender honestly to ever try. It’s so good. So, let’s uh grill it again here. Last piece of soup. Look at this. The melting juicy afterl. So, the final thoughts guys, uh the price was really cheap. people paid around 445 for for the amount of meat we got. Honestly, it’s really amazing. It feels like it’s a really local place where local go and also like to be honest only one table with tourists apart from us uh were there. So really local place and one tip that no is going to share with you. Yeah, this is the when you ask for the bill, this is the way to pay. you want to pay and you show this is the way in European countries you say to pay or or like this. Yeah. But in uh Japan, this is the way. Yes. Interesting. Hope you find it helpful for your next trip in Japan. After um this dinner, we decided to go for a walk around Gillon. And uh to be honest, we’re quite surprised because it’s so quiet. Really impressive. I didn’t know that Japan can be like this. But I think it’s an interesting experience. So quiet. Although Kyoto becomes quieter at night, the city felt absolutely magical. The warm lights, peaceful streets, and serene atmosphere made it an unforgettable evening. Next day we decided to go to the famous Arishiyama forest. So it’s our last full day in Kyoto and we decided to go to visit one of the main attractions uh here nearby which is Arashyama forest and you already can see it’s full of tourists. So we hope we can enter it. I’m sure. Yeah. Yeah. So on the way to the forest, we decided to drop by Loen and buy some snack. It’s u minced beef, I think, deep fried. So it’s like a meatball, but not like a meatball. More like a smashed meat meatball if you will. So let’s try. Smells actually really good. You know, for the swim market quality, I’m impressed. Really good. You see, it’s full of beef. I think one of the best ways to start your morning. So, entering the forest, although it’s very crowded, but the air is so fresh here and it’s shady in this hot weather. I love it. Yeah, really refreshing here. In real life, it looks more beautiful. There’s so many vending machines in Japan, which makes it quite convenient. Whenever you need water or any other drink, sometimes they even have beer, which I’m quite surprised. What you have to do, you just choose a drink and start putting money in. So, we have now 200. We choose our drink and drink. We got our drink and money back and a lot of coins back and the drink is really cold. So in this case, water. So quite good way to buy your drink. So nice area here actually. [Music] Wow. Really nice. On this bridge you can have a best view of this area. some water activities. Really, the video cannot describe how beautiful it is. For lunch, we decided to grab some udon noodles. Warm, comforting, and perfect for a midday bite. General guys here in this area it’s so difficult to find restaurant without crowds and we found one that’s an odon place. So we I ordered some um shrimp tempura udon and no miso udonas. So um yeah we’re looking forward to it because we’re hungry and you know we didn’t want to stay in the lines alone. So and we also got um some tea ready. Welcome drink. Welcome drink. Yes. Let’s try. It’s quite good actually. Although I’m not a big fan of tea, but it’s not bad. So, we got our food. You see here there some tempura, some I think vegetables, think pumpkin also shrimps and uh mushroom. Actually, I have no idea what is this, but we’ll try it. Let’s maybe start. Uh maybe maybe oberine or Yeah, let’s try with um noodles. of quite long noodles. Take a bit smaller one with some um broth. It’s really hot. I think it’s like um miso with something else. I don’t know. But the broth is really really tasty. I like it. Now, let’s try this shrimp. tempura. I don’t know. Should I put it inside or just eat it together? We can just try both ways. [Music] You can taste it. It’s just freshly made. Really good. And the fish and and um shrimp is quite fresh as well. So, I like it. I ordered this miso soup udong with egg, pork and vegetables or also mushroom. Very tasty. I like mushroom. So I will try the mushroom with the soup first. [Music] Mhm. Very very flavorful. Like it really. It’s really good broth. If we have the good broth, I think this is just a secondary things, you know. But I still try it’s the the pork. Let’s try the udo noodle. [Music] You like it? Really good. Also, um the broth in um the two these two dishes are very different. For example, mine is more like a clear like miso broth. I think with some fish taste, probably some fish paste or something they put inside. I don’t know. But it’s a little bit um taste like a bit of seafood miso. For example, the broth from no, it’s more um rich. You see, it’s like full of flavor and I think um is it the pork bone broth, I think. Yeah. So, it’s it’s slightly different, but tastes also very good. taste pork also some um seasoning like eggs I think some onions so really good as well a totally different um I mean totally different dishes both of them so it’s totally up to you which flavor you like but um this one is more like classic and this one is more rich and new both are really good recommended so After lunch, we decided to visit the nearby monkey park. A fun spot to see some playful Japanese monkeys up close. So to see the monkeys, we have to go up for around 20 minutes. So it’s got to be worth it. Climbing up for about 20 minutes was not the easiest, but it was definitely worth it. The experience is so unique. Monkeys can come right to you, walk around you, and interact freely. We’ve never seen a park like this anywhere else in the world. Also apart from the monkey part you can see a very nice view the mountains and Kyoto a panoramic view looks really nice. So actually it was really a fun experience. I mean it’s quite unique thing that you can go and like play of course safely play with the monkey don’t really touch them but also they kind of interacting with the with the people. So it’s quite a different concept. Yeah it’s really fun experience. And then it was a time for ice cream matcha ice cream. Oh, tastes really good. It tastes like um the nama chocolate we ate in to Tokyo. It’s like matcha chocolate. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I’m also going to try this um matcha ice cream. Very strong taste of um matcha. And it does really remind me of the ice cream. Not this ice cream. The chocolate that we ate in Tokyo. Matchi chocolate. Quite similar taste. I like it. It’s really soft. Yeah. Yes. It’s good. So, we are now walking to our last spot where we going to eat a dinner in Kyoto last night in Kyoto. So, on the way, we took some drink which is Japanese high bowl which includes some so and lemon and other ingredients. So, it’s typical thing in Japan. I haven’t tried it yet. So, it’s the first time actually I’m trying it. Actually, it’s very lemony taste, not like full of um gas, but it’s pretty refreshing. I don’t know, somehow reminds me a little bit of ginonic and margarita, something between this. So, to be honest, if you like this type of flavor, like sour, I think this thing is for you. And if you like alcohol, of course. And in general, you can buy this type of drink in any convenience store, either 7-Eleven, Lo and Family Mart, or others. For our last dinner in Kyoto, we decided to try something different. Shaboo Shabu, the classic Japanese hot pot where you cook your own meat and wages right at the table. Have to take shoes off to enter the restaurant and go on the second floor. Quite interesting experience. And we enter this corridor. Quite interesting. Thank you, guys. These are the longest chopsticks I’ve seen in my life. I don’t know what are this for, but it’s looks cool. Maybe for this um broth. I think probably just to take things out when it’s boiled. Yeah. Thanks, Noc. She’s professional in this. So, we already got some uh things for our um hot pot. So, different type of mushroom. I think it’s shiakei. This one, I have no idea how to call it to be honest, guys. If you know, please comment. And of course, tofu, some vegetables, and I think there’s some noodles, right? So, pretty decent. And I think you also will get some meat later. And probably this is soy milk if you want to put it in the broth or it’s a sauce for the fish. And now we have so I pick up. Okay. [Music] Then this is now complete. I bring some shadow after this heats up. Okay. It’s very interesting way because it’s hot pot with um fish broth uh and soy milk. I’m quite um excited to try it because to be honest guys, I have no idea what to expect because I I’m not even sure I tried soy milk before apart from matcha um latte with soy milk, but it’s the only experience. So, it’ll be interesting. We expect it’s going to be good. Let’s start with the appetizer. So, I think it’s um I don’t know. They say it’s macarel I think but um it doesn’t look like typical macreel in my opinion. So I don’t know. Let’s try and I will tell you what is salty maybe type of macreel but this is very different from macr that we got used to in Europe. It tastes different but it’s really good. It’s slightly salty and um it’s it’s a perfect snack for the beer. I would love to have it in Germany. Now we’re waiting until the broth is um boiling so we can put things inside and also waiting for the meat that we ordered. So, actually on the menu they say that this macr first it’s um salted vinegar and also roasted. So really good stuff to be honest. Um super delicious. I didn’t expect it to be that that good honestly. Now we’re going to show how to do traditional shaboo shaboo. We have three points. The first point is not to move or touch the meat. If you do that, the meat will be so hard. So, please not to touch or move. And this two ku takes two or three minutes. And this is very fresh. So, you can you can choose medium layer. which second point is not to overcook the vegetable. We want to enjoy the crunch of vegetable. So, please take it before it’s over. Spinach and lettuce takes 20 or 30 seconds. And the mushroom, tofu, and gas noodle takes two or 3 minutes. And when you scoop up the tofu, please use that spoon because it’s very soft. Okay, the last point is to use the green onion and dipping sauce that green onion and dipping sauce and that is okay is a Japanese spice made from means pepper. So that can change the spicy taste. So do I need to change the side of the meat? The meat? Yeah. Turn it. We need to turn it. Yeah. But we shouldn’t move it. Yeah. Mhm. Thank you. Thank you. Enjoy. Thank you. Oh man, this is really ultimate experience. I don’t know what to expect. like um he cooked in front of us and uh open. I have no doubts it’s going to taste good. It’s so good. So flavorful. I don’t know this soy sauce with something done this soy meal broth. Oh, it made beef so it’s pork actually. So tender and very flavorful. I’m really happy. It’s so good. So, the next thing we’re going to try is Wagu. It’s very fresh. Um, they told us that um it doesn’t need a lot of time to be cooked. So, what we’re going to do is we’re just going to put this in the broth and let it boil for um maybe 2 minutes or so. And then we just let it rest. The important uh um thing is don’t move it because then can become um harder. [Music] Yeah, that’s the tip of the waiter. How they eat shaboo shaboo in a traditional way. They also put some mushrooms. Uh so we can test taste uh more um things and maybe also some uh tofu. And now I’ll let the professional to put tofuh inside in order not to ruin it because it’s very difficult. It’s soft. It’s silky tofu I think. Yeah. See even for the professionals difficult. So guys use this big spoon. Getting better. This one. Yeah. Learning by doing. I think uh beef is already cooked. So, we can take a piece. We’re going to put this in this gorgeous sauce. And another thing is like what um the waiter mentioned that we can also put this um onion on top of this in the sauce to make it even more flavorful. I mean, everything is better with onion, right? So I’m excited beef freshly boiled in this shabu shabu. Oh, it’s so good. So tender. And with the onion, it makes it super special. Oh god, this is so good. So good. It smells so the flavor is getting stronger every second. I’m still feeling it. Stronger and stronger. strongest flavorful flavor with the all combinations of the sauce and the soy sauce meat and the onions. I think like nothing you can add to make it better. Super super quick. Now let’s try some mushroom. I think it might be slightly overcooked but maybe not. Let’s see. They put in the sauce and try with some onion. It’s very very flavorful. The broth gives a lot of taste. Really, it makes a huge difference when you eat this. Oh my god, it’s so different. And um I love it. Let’s actually try without putting in the dip. A bit of the book, I know, but let’s just try to understand taste of the broth a little bit better. Without um soy sauce, it is a bit basic. So, I recommend putting soy sauce. It’s actually gives a lot of taste. Really, it makes difference. Now, let’s try some tofu. Can take it out like this. And I’m going to put it in a deep like this. Oh, looks so good. It’s super tender, almost a liquid, a little bit different, but um it’s good. Uh it’s very, very tasty, actually. I like it. So this tofu is very different from any other standard tofu you can find because look it’s silky tofu super soft and you need to handle it with care. I would dip it a little bit with the sauce. Try it. You don’t need to chew a lot with this because it’s super super soft and it’s like immediately melted in your mouth and but still the taste is full of tofu flavors but it’s really really different. I love vegetables. and mushroom. Especially mushroom. I would say hot pot usually like one of my favorite meals. So, but this hot pot shabu shabu is really really different from any kind of hot pot I haven’t ever eaten in my life. I think we don’t have anything like this in Germany. At least I haven’t seen. Yeah, maybe we need to check after we come back to Yeah, we’ll definitely research after. Please guys, comment if you know anything like this in Germany. We’ll be happy to know. But um for us, this dish is kind of a surprise, a very good surprise because it tastes so good. Oh man, this meat [Music] exceptionally good. I don’t know if I’m going to sleep tonight. I’m going to think about this meat and this shaboo shaboo because it’s so good. Doc is hunting for the mushrooms. Good. More than good. Perfect. Happy face. There will be also ramen noodles. Ramen ramen. Yeah, that’s good. So before this glass noodle is so different, so thick. Let me try. It’s really chewy. Different from any glass noodles in Vietnam or in different like chewy, very chewy like in Italian they say the noodle is Thank you. Do you prefer harder or softer? In the middle. Medium. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. This noodle looks like Japanese sobba, but it’s ramen noodle made from flour. And this noodle has very rich nutrition. So, it’s So, you saw how the guy just cooked noodles in front of us. Looks really good. But in the sauce, the same as we did before with the meat and mushrooms and vegetables. So, let’s try. It needs a bit of time to be less chewy, but it’s really good. Like um pretty classic ramen with soy sauce and the broth tastes really good. Um nothing super duper special, but it’s just um for you to be full, to make sure you’re full. Okay, now ramen seem to be cooked well enough to try. Oh, look at this. Let’s put the sauce deep. Let’s try. I love Japanese food. Oh, so good. And finally for the dessert, we got some green tea ice cream. I guess matcha ice cream. I think the perfect way to finish this perfect dinner. It remind me of this um matcha chocolate that we tried before in Tokyo. But um we also got some smoked green tea. It’s pretty hot. Let’s try. Pretty strong. I hope we can sleep tonight. But in general, it’s really good. And um we like the experience. Really good stuff. In general, what do you think about Kyoto? It’s very different comparison to Tokyo. It’s more traditional. You can see geishas on the street. You can uh see some rice suits. Um like a lot of this type of traditional stuff. But at the same time, it’s very full of tourists. But I have to say that the food is really good. I like it. So would you recommend uh other people to come here to visit or? Absolutely. Yeah, I mean it’s very different experience from from Tokyo. And I think if you want to see really more like traditional Japan, Kyoto is a right choice.
