Erzurum Hınıs Başköy Barajı | Doğanın Huzuru • Başköy Dam | Peaceful Nature

On Saturday, September 20, 2025, we trace a journey that begins in the village of Çağlar, Tekman, Erzurum, in the ancient lands surrounded by the high mountains of Eastern Anatolia . This path is not merely a journey through geography; it is also a journey of memory that unites the past and the present . Our route includes settlements with distinct textures, such as Kazancık village in Tekman, Şalgam village in Hınıs, then Kazancı village, Başköy, the Başköy Dam, and Ortaköy . Each one embodies the silent stories of Anatolia , centuries old . Stone-walled houses, wind-blown grass, and villagers greeting with tearful eyes. These lands bear the traces of both a culture that has resisted time and a changing world. Now, let us listen to these silent testimonies together. The road will carry us from the depths of the past to the shores of today. Kazancık village has a history stretching back centuries. Registered as Memo in 1901 , the village is located 73 km from Erzurum city center and 24 km from Tekman district center. It’s approximately 2,300 meters above sea level and, along with the surrounding villages, is a center of agriculture and animal husbandry. Our first stop on our route was Tekman’s Kazancık village. Here, we ran into familiar faces we hadn’t seen for years. We shared some longings, we asked each other how things were. A short conversation with friends sometimes leaves a deeper impression on us than a long journey. Now, we’re leaving these beautiful memories behind and continuing our journey towards Hınıs . Yes. Now , we’ll head up this slope , God willing. But the road is good, right? Good, good. Not bad. If you go a little slower , thank God our car is high; we’re swinging a lot. Yes, my grandchildren and I took a break here. Come on, let’s go there. Come on, let’s go there. Come on. Yes, we’re picking rosehips here. We’re picking rosehips here. Good luck. Thank you. Yes, these are rosehips. Gülşen Hanım. Semra Hanım , Çağlar Village is across the street. Further ahead, Çayırdağı village. The Kuruj Baba tomb is in sight . During our journey, my grandchildren and I took a short break. We picked rosehips after seeing them on the roadside . After our short break, our journey to Hınıs continues in all its beauty. Now we’re passing through this stream. I hope the car doesn’t rattle. They should put a pipe here. We drive in such stony and rocky places . A car that isn’t high here is a bit difficult to pass. Yes. From the edge like this. Yes. Now go this ramp. Yes, these are the new housing units in Şalgam village , in the Hın district. Şalgam neighborhood is in the Hınıs district of Erzurum. It’s 165 km from Erzurum and 15 km from Hınıs. It’s located at an altitude of approximately 2095 meters. The people’s livelihood depends on agriculture and animal husbandry. The new housing units are built of stone and concrete, while the old village remains behind the hill. In recent years, the neighborhood has been developing with guests and infrastructure work . Peace be upon you, young people. No, we are guests. You are going. My villager. Where are you going? Yes. This is the Başköy Dam. It’s seen here. It’s Başköy across the street. The Başköy Dam. Yes. Rhubarb generally grows in these areas, especially in Hınıs Şalgam village, in May , and it’s quite enjoyable to collect it in nature. This is the cemetery of Şalgam village. We’re heading this way to Başköy, Hınıs Başköy Dam. My passengers, my car. See you at the dam. See you in Başköy. Hınıs Kazancı village is a small village in the Hınıs district of Erzurum . The village moved there. The water came up to here. Well, there’s someone in the water. They must be fishing. Yes. The dam is up to here now. Next year, this debris won’t be visible either. This bridge and all will be underwater. The dam’s water is so clear. as if the sky has descended.
