The worst ride quality in Japan. It’s a unique vehicle found only here in the world. Hello! You can see Osaka Bay clearly. We’ve arrived at Sumaura Park Station. Today’s destination is Sumaura Mountain Park. First, we’ll ride the ropeway. Purchase tickets at the booth next to the station. Today we’ll ride various vehicles. The round-trip fare for all rides is a set price of $14. Climb the stairs to the ropeway boarding area. The Expo mascot, Myaku Myaku, is hugely popular in Japan. It steadily climbs up the mountainside. The weather is nice today, so the view is clear. The elevation difference is 161m. Arrival takes about 3 minutes. The next ride is the “Carlator.” It’s reputed to be Japan’s most uncomfortable ride. Just what kind of ride is this…? We board a two-person gondola. The gondola is moved by a conveyor. Actively promoting its “rough ride.” It’s a transportation system attracting attention even overseas. After boarding, it moves slowly for a while on a wheel conveyor. The sway from oncoming vehicles is intense. From here, it switches to a belt conveyor. The speed picks up a bit. The gondola stays level even on slopes. There used to be a similar facility in Shiga Prefecture. Now it’s the only ride of its kind in the world. The camera stabilization makes it look smooth. But in reality, it swayed quite a bit. The ride lasted about 2 minutes and 20 seconds. After the carlator, proceed to the observation deck. The admission fee is included in the round-trip fare. The view from the second floor is spectacular. The third floor is the rooftop. You can enjoy a 360-degree view. You can look down on the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge beautifully. This view looks toward Osaka. You can see Abeno Harukas and Kansai International Airport. Below us is the carlator from earlier. The pier jutting out into the sea is the Sea Fishing Park. From here, you can take the lift. Before that, let’s grab a quick bite to eat. A set of a hot sandwich and iced coffee is $7. The floor completes one rotation in 55 minutes. I brought the stylish coaster home as a souvenir. The lift boarding area is beyond the observation deck. We descend a little along the mountain path. This is the lift boarding station. Baby carriers are available for free rental. Getting on the lift requires a little skill. Stand here and wait for the lift. Sit down on the lift coming from behind. Cross the valley via the lift. The lift’s total length is 268m. This is the valley at the midpoint. It was the old province border in Japan. Arrival in about 4 minutes. Getting off also requires a bit of skill. A nostalgic children’s song drifts in. There are several amusement facilities here. Many facilities have been operating since the park opened in 1959. It might take a little courage for an adult to play alone. I recommend this cycle monorail. Each amusement facility requires a separate fee. This facility costs $4. You move by pedaling It also has a brake. It moves slowly along the monorail. This also offers a great view. Slightly inland from the previous observation deck. Since it’s a monorail, there’s only one track. Going around once is quite tiring. Finally reached the goal. It was a fun aerial stroll. The amusement facilities weren’t very crowded. The ropeway on the way back. Children’s songs playing. It was an experience that brought out my inner child. And then the carlator again. This is with image stabilization turned off. The view is easier to see on the way down. This carlator opened in 1966. Initially, it garnered significant attention as an advanced mode of transportation. However, it never gained popularity due to its uncomfortable ride. And now, after all this time, it’s drawing attention again. Swaying in the ropeway, we descend to the ground.
