Investigative sources say a man who allegedly forced a 12-year-old Thai girl to work at his massage parlor had split all her earnings with her mother. Tokyo police suspect the case may involve human trafficking.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested 51-year-old Hosono Masayuki, who runs a massage parlor in Tokyo’s Bunkyo Ward, on suspicion of violating the Labor Standards Act. He allegedly hired the girl and forced her to provide sexual services for about one month between late June and July.

Police said the girl entered Japan with her mother in late June and was left at the parlor after her mother departed the country. They said the parlor made about 620,000 yen, or about 4,000 dollars, by forcing the girl to provide sexual services to 61 customers.

Investigative sources said the parlor and the mother took about 300,000 yen each. They also said the money was wired to a bank account in the name of a person linked to the mother.

Hosono reportedly admitted to hiring the girl. He told police that he went to the parlor once every two days to collect the earnings.

Police said the girl was never paid. They said every time the girl sent messages to her mother saying she needed money, Hosono gave her living expenses.
