Exploring Spain’s Largest Abandoned Theme Park (Tívoli World)
This Thursday in the
Tivoli amusement park… the beautiful songs of Rosa León. On Friday, Norva Duval with her
great show of music and color. Saturday and Sunday,
Marta Sánchez and Ole Ole, open every day from 6 pm. We are waiting for you. In the early 1970s, a Danish man
arrived in Spain’s Southern coast… with a dream. ♫ A place you can dream of…
only Tivoli has it. Inspired by the legendary
Tivoli Gardens of Copenhagen… he acquired a plot of land to build
a place where joy would never fade. ♫ Laughter and great attractions,
await you in Tivoli. On the 20th of May 1972,
Tivoli World was inaugurated… Opening its gates to the world. — The inauguration was carried out
by the Civil Governor of the province… accompanied by other authorities and
a representative of the Ministry of Information and Tourism — The park quickly became
a symbol of the coast. A place where generations grew up… fell in love and came back again. But after decades and tens of millions of smiles… the rides have now fallen silent. The place that once
ruled the summer nights… now lies in ruins. But how could a dream
like this ever fall so far? This is the story of how
a chain of missteps… ownership changes and the 2020 pandemic
were the final nail in the coffin. ♪ By the sea, on the Costa del Sol… ♪ There, Tivoli awaits you. So, as you’ve already heard… we’re driving to an abandoned
theme park here in Spain. As you know, those locations
are one of our favorites. We’re now going to drive
to 3 friends of ours. But anyway, yeah, we’re
having our breakfast here. Making our way to the abandoned theme park. And we’re so amped to do this. So, yeah, let’s just nail it. Yo, what’s up? Yo, man! How are you? — Fine, and you? — Good to see you again, man. — Yeah, haha. — It’s been 2 years ago, I think. — Yeah, maybe, like 2 years or… Maybe even 3 years. — It looks very cool, man. But on the billboards, they’re still
making promotion for the park. It’s bizarre. The billboards, like… — Ah, yeah, there are so many. — They’re still making promotion
for the amusement park. — Yes, it was very famous here. It’s one of the only parks of its kind
here in Andalusia and the region. — But why did it close, eventually? No money? — Money and… — The bank. — Bankruptcy? — Yeah, 15 million euros they… owe to the tax authorities. — They are in debt to the State. — Yeah, so eventually, they got bankrupt. No money, had to close, and… The park has been abandoned ever since. — Covid… Caused a lot of crisis. — So, it happened during the pandemic
that the park closed? — 1 year ago. — Yeah, the park had been failing earlier… But during COVID, it got worse. — It was even more difficult for them
to maintain the park. That’s kind of sad, man. Our eyes fall on the massive
ferris wheel of the park. It’s time to start our
infiltration of the park… by climbing over a massive overgrown wall. So, it’s about time. We’re going to explore the park now. — There we are. And actually, this was a water slide. Can you imagine that this
was just once filled with water? — Well, we can only still
tell that there’s a few… like, mossy and green water over here left. But the slide itself
is entirely free of water. — It’s crazy, man. — This is so cool. We can already see the
Ferris wheel over there as well. — And look where we have to walk up to. Oh, damn! This is crazy. — Don’t slip. Don’t fall down. — No, no, no. — There are cracks in here as well. — I’m still pretty cautious, you know. It’s so crazy, this. — This is really crazy. Over here, it stops.
Look! — Man, nature is quickly
doing its job for only one year. — Yeah, it’s literally taking over. — Trees are already
growing over this slide. Alright, let’s go down here. Like a monkey, haha. — A silent monkey. I really like the texture. — Yeah, I was already
making a cinematic of it. So cool. — I think it had to do something
with a “raptor” style, I don’t know. — Yeah. — Looks like it, right? — Maybe like a prehistoric style, you know? With dragons and reptiles. — Yeah, yeah, exactly. And look, it’s so crazy where
we are walking right now. — Oh! Even the carts and everything
are still here. That’s unique, man. That’s very rare. Yo, what’s up? — Yeah, I’m waiting for the ride to start… but I think I can wait for a long time. — I think so too, bro. — Actually, damn…! Look at this. Is this also a part of an attraction? Yeah, right? — Yeah, for sure. It’s like a little cave or a mountain. — This must be a cool ride. — Yeah. — If it was still active. — All right. So, this is a part we usually
never see in an abandoned… Well, at least in an amusement park
or a theme park. This is very cool. This is like the backstage area… and you can see that the carts,
which were broken… or there was something wrong with it,
they were replacing them over here. And over here is the
complete mechanics side. — Dang, bro! Yeah, this is where they were doing
all the maintenance and construction. — Look how big… Look how big these things are. Damn! — Also, an old vending machine. — Yeah, a very old one, actually. Completely broken. — This was a vending machine for ponchos. — Yeah, yeah, yeah. — So, the people did not get wet in the ride. — So, these are broken. If we use these in the attraction, then… — I think if you use any cart
whatsoever right now, you will… — I used it like… — …it will not end well. — Four years ago I was here. Having fun in the attraction. — Really?! — Yes, because I… — You used to be in the park. — Yes, because I live in this town, man. I have been in the park, like 5-7 times. — My gosh. — When I was little, I always came here. — Crazy, man. — I live 15 minutes from here. — It must be so unreal to
see the park now in this state… in contrast with how it used to be. — It’s really sad. It’s really sad. And it looks like it’s not going to open again. — For him, it was part of growing up. For us, it’s now part of what’s left. But where did the story turn along the way? Behind the laughter and the lights
lay shifting hands and growing debt. The first blow came when the original owner
sold the park in the early 2000s… and the new management
failed to stand the decline. By 2020, the park stood under the weight
of more than 11 million euros in creditors. Taxes, social security, and legal disputes. Then, the pandemic arrived. The final shutter on an old era. In September 2020, the gates closed. And the park… once alive with life and color,
slipped into silence. Now, we stand here
at its first attraction… scratching the surface of a site where emptiness feels
louder than the cheers ever did. And this is just our first stop. There’s a whole park to explore. — And right now, we’re
going to the rest of the park. And I don’t know if you
already see it, but… damn! — Wow! So insane, dude. — Yeah, unbelievable, right? — Having an entire park
like this for yourself… is really unbelievable. It’s like a child’s dream. — What is this ride? — Those used to be like horses, you know? On a monorail. — It’s definitely for children. — Yeah, definitely for children. — “Western Country”. Well… Do you want to go in? — Absolutely. I want to go inside the haunted house. — Yeah. — It’s going to be so cool. — Oh, it’s already very creepy, man. — Wow! I can’t wait to see the inside of this. — Ah, this is creepy as hell. — What the heck… There is a vampire. Haha. — Ah, look, look, look! — And yeah, these things
all used to move, you know? And now it’s just like… nothing anymore. — I think it’s not that scary, to be honest. — Nah, it’s pretty childish.
I don’t know. I’ve seen scarier ones. — I was expecting like… you know, like, life-like
skeletons and eerie stuff, but… Oh, dang, look at this. — That’s pretty, uh… Well, this is definitely an 18+ ride. — Yeah. All right, so… There are a couple of carts passing by… but I think right now we’re good, man. — Yeah, we’re good. — Let’s go to the other side. I’m wondering if it’s getting
creepier here, maybe. — Yeah. It could be the case, right? — Oh, there is still something there. — Yeah, I think it still continues. — What’s that? — There are two floors. — It looks like this demon-like thing in the back. And then you have this
kind of Chucky person. — Ah, it’s pretty scary. I mean, he looks creepy. — Hahaha. What is he even doing? He’s holding a chandelier in his hands,
and he’s got keys in his other hands. — I think that figurine
used to turn around… at the back. — Probably. — Imagine that it’s all turned
on right now, like, brrr brrr… things started moving. — That would be so cool. — Yeah, that would be a horror movie, man. — What’s this? It’s like a Pharaoh or something. — Yeah. The sarcophagus used to open up? — Maybe, yeah. — I think so. — And then, a mummy
would come out or something. — Yeah, yeah, exactly. — Well, over here are
still the rides as well. — All the carts. — The scary carts. Haha. Muahahahaha. — Muahahahaha. Haha. — There we have 2 live-action… — There, we’ve still got 2 of the actors
of this haunted house ride. — Yeah. — Hahaha. — This is so cool. Oh! Look at this. A sort of gargoyle with wings. It’s crazy. Everything is still left
behind in these rides… and that makes it so fascinating to see. The park just closed
from one day to another, and… — And everything is just like, you know… it’s like the last rides were done. And then, they said, like:
“Yeah, we’re closing for a short time.” — And they have been decommissioned ever since. — Exactly. Exactly. Look in front of you. — “Graf Dracula”. — You know, this is one of those last ones… if you think: “Oh, we had everything…” And there was one last thing to scare you. It was the gravestone over here
that would probably fall in front. And then, you would have… Dracula! — I mean, if this was the last one. — Oh! Like this headless mythical figure. What the heck, bro? Yeah, that’s very strange. — Yeah. I need to say, this one is very scary. — Hahaha. — I think we cannot even go out there. Ah, we can, luckily. Yeah, let’s just go out here, man. Despite being abandoned, the park
remains guarded 24/7 by on-site security. Yet, for now… — I think we’re safe… It seems pretty quiet. But quiet is sometimes not a good thing. — Yeah. Well, so far… — …so good. We’ve still got so many things to see. — Yeah, exactly. — There’s another ride over here. It used to go up and down… but the carts themselves
have been taken out, it seems. — Yeah, I think they were
taken out, indeed, the carts… because I was looking for them. And this… you already saw it?
The western town. — Yeah, it was like a
ride with horses, I believe. — Yeah, yeah, exactly. — Pony Express. And then, we have this one. I used to be a lot on this ride. — This was… I mean, when I was
younger, this was the kick. And, I mean, this looks neglected. The Game Center. — Where you could play, like basketball. And probably once you threw it in… or made a goal, you could earn
like toys or dolls, you know? — Exactly, exactly. — Like little presents. — But now it looks just awful. Damn… — It’s crazy, man. This park is quite huge. We’ve still got so many
things to go to and to see. There’s a freaking pheasant… walking in the park. What the heck?! — They are, uh… — They became the new
visitors of the park, man. — The visitors of the park right now,
that’s what I wanted to say. — There’s that Pony Express ride
we’ve just seen. With the racehorses, definitely for the children. — Oh, yeah. I mean, it was not a big ride, it was, literally… 3 or 5 curves. — Yeah. — Haha. — It seems that they used to have,
like… a cafeteria part over here. — Yeah, exactly. — The bar and everything. Where people could have
some snacks and drinks. Still, the chairs from Coca-Cola. — Kebab. — Haha. And ice cream. They used to have a
little stage over here… probably with the animation of the park. Doing some little performances. — Oh, yeah. — Like dance performances or anything. So cool. — Tadaaa! — Haha. — All right, let’s continue, man. “Poseidon”. It’s like… a water attraction? Do you think it was like a… Do you think it was an attraction? I think it was, actually, a big pool. — I don’t know if this was a ride. It seems like it was a
fountain or something. — Yeah, yeah, yeah. Whoa! — Oh, there was even a theater over there. “Teatro”, it’s saying. — Oh, yeah. — And that was the souvenir shop. A pizzeria over there. This seems like it’s one of
the main squares of the park. — I don’t know if you
already saw it,but look there. — Yeah, that’s so cool, man. There’s a freaking shark. I want to see the theater. But I’m afraid it will be closed. — Yeah, big chance it is. Over here you could just get your tickets. And over there is the
entrance of the theater. — Okay. Well, it’s not allowed to film… so, are we going to be a badass today? — We are already badass enough, so… I think so. — Haha. — Let’s do it, bro. We’re going to go to the theater. I think it’s an open-air theater, though. — Yeah, yeah, yeah. — Our friend is already there. — Well, as you could tell,
the restaurant was closed. Because this is not the
door of the restaurant. — Oh, yeah! An open-air theater. That’s so cool. Wow! Imagine how many seats as well. Then, you know for sure
how many visitors this park… could actually welcome. — Crazy, huh? — So many. — Hmm, that’s a lot. — There are at least like
500-600 seats, I think. — Just also the imagination that
this once, indeed, was filled with people. — Yeah. — That there were once like so many… yeah, so many people over here. And right now it’s just the 4 of us. And then, you actually see… how many costs these big theme parks have. People always think that… people who own big things… own a lot of money. But as you can see… If things stop for a week, it’s already:
“Hmm, ah, that hurts…” — Yeah. — But if things stop for a
year, then, yeah, that… that can just be the end of everything. And this is the contrast you see with it. I mean, it’s always the
perspective we have on business… and just business owners. It’s not always the bright side, man. It’s not always the bright side. SECURITY IS ONTO US 👮🏻♂️🚨 — Is there security?! — The good thing is that… they didn’t see us, but I saw him. — Really? — Yeah. — So, security is patrolling the park Our friend spotted him… Where are we going to hide? — There? — Maybe over there? — Let’s go back here. To the water slide… and just wait. Insane, out of nowhere, there is security. But they didn’t see us. — No, they didn’t see us. — We are so lucky that they didn’t see us. We’ll chill here for 15 minutes, stay here. And after that, we’re just
going to continue our way. — Maybe in the workshop? — Fingers crossed. — In the workshop behind? And he is in the back of the park, — Okay. So, security has left and has moved
to a different part right now? — Yes, we are going to go
to the part where he was. — Yeah. — To film the rollercoaster and… — Ooh…! — (Speaking Spanish) — He saw them… — 10 minutes ago, I heard someone cough. — So, in 10 minutes… we move with our cameras and… We’ll leave again and we’re still exploring. — Okay, cool, man. — There we go, attempt 2. I’ve put on my GoPro… so if we have some action,
we have some live footage. — Yeah, well, let’s hope we
will not encounter the security. — No, no. — Let’s try to be more discreet this time. Stay a little bit more on our guard. Keep a more low profile. Oh, there is a Go Karts circuit here. Yo, that’s cool! — It’s a complete track, man. And we’re just standing on it. — Haha. Yeah, the Go Karts track. Wow! So, we’ve got the rollercoaster
right in front of us. There are many pheasants. — Yeah. — The pheasants are
just chilling on the ride. And the carts are also still there. — And many animals, haha. — Yeah, there are freaking
peacocks and pheasants… all over the place. It’s so crazy, man. — But this is actually a
pretty cool rollercoaster. It’s… I mean, you know, you can just film it. Abstractly, but… — Yeah. I think this was, again, like a
rollercoaster mostly for children. Well, over there used
to be a shooting range. Over here, we have a little hotdog stand. — And over there… — …there are the bumping carts. — Yeah, and they are
just all well-organized. — Insane. So untouched. There is not a single sign
of vandalism in this park. — No, no, no. I don’t think there are many people
who’ve been here already after closure. — They are all so well-positioned, still. Like you said, Remon… Insane. We’re now going now to
that part: the Jurassic Park. — It’s an indoor attraction… with a dinosaur theme. It has a T-rex, like 3 or 4 meters. — Really? — It’s an indoor attraction. — Whoa! — It’s really, really nice. I think it’s the best of the park. — That’s so cool. We can already see a
dinosaur over there, man. This is so cool. And look at that over there. Huge feathers. Yeah, from all those peacocks over here. It’s crazy, man. — There are loads of them, right? Well, I’m very excited.
Come on, man. — Look, this was a huge Halloween attraction. Whoa…! “Mansion of Terror.” Oh, it looks like an abandoned house. Look at all those gravestones here as well. It’s so sinister. — And… Oh, damn, bro! — What? — Look at this. This is sick. This was once the owner. — You think so? — Yeah, definitely. It was a… Oh, no. Actor Anthony Perkins, star of The Psycho.. at the opening passage. — …of Terror in June 1991. So, this actor was here
at the opening of this ride. Just some construction. — Yeah. — We can probably not enter
the Mansion of Terror… according to our friend. — No, I don’t think so. — I actually wish that this
ice cream shop was open right now. I’m craving for ice cream, man. — I’d pay a lot for
an ice cream right now. — Yeah. I’m craving for ice cream
with these temperatures, like… Please check the fridges if there’s
still Ben & Jerry’s left, bro. — Okay, I’m going to check. — So, tell me, bro. Is there still Ben & Jerry’s? — No. The only thing I can give you is a straw. — Ahh…! Well, there is actually still
some liquor left over here. — Yeah, yeah, yeah. — It’s not even expired? — No. — You can still drink it? You can still drink it. It’ expires on “31/7/21”. Maybe this one. — Aquarius. — Look, all the cans
and the drinks are still here. Even a t-shirt from one of
the former employees is here. Okay, so, we’re now going
to one of the most epic rides… according to our friend. It’s like a dinosaur attraction. It has to do with Jurassic Park. I’m really curious what the inside
of this ride is going to be like. — Me too, man. Me too. — A giant dinosaur bone over here. — Oh my god! Wow…! — For me, it’s the best part. — What the heck, bro?! There’s a freaking
Pterodactylus over there. This is so cool. — And look, look, look
on your right, Mo. Look on the ground. Literally, the ceiling is coming off. — Oh, yeah. The ceiling is just crumbling
apart right over there. Bro, a freaking T-Rex over there. And more Pterodactylus flying around. Whoa! — I need to say this,
this is a pretty detailed T-Rex. — I was not expecting this. Over here is also all the history about it. I really don’t know where to look, man. I’m so astonished. — Yeah, me too. — This one’s also really detailed. — Do you know which one this is? I’ve seen this in many movies. — I don’t know the exact name. Whoa! My gosh! — This is so unreal. I think to be honest, Maureno… this is going to be one of my top explores. Yeah, you still know which one
is my most favorite one, but… — The abandoned mall in Portugal? — Yeah, yeah, exactly, but… — It’s hard to top this one, man. — Yeah. — I’ve seen one other amusement park
without you, but… this one is even more incredible
than that one. — Yeah. — Okay, so we’re continuing in the park… but the Jurassic Park
attraction was so epic, man. — Yeah, that was unbelievable. — The best of the best… that we’ve seen so far. — Definitely, yeah… like I said, I think this was one of
the coolest things I’ve ever seen, man. I mean, yeah… Ah, but… It was hot inside. — Yeah, it was quite warm inside. Right now with the wind… it’s slightly more comfortable. It looks like we’re going
to enter the next ride. — Yeah, the next ride in Tivoli World. — This one again has to
do something with dinosaurs. — Yeah, it has. — Oh, let’s enter the darkness. Well, they definitely liked dinosaurs,
that’s one thing for sure. — Yeah. But I mean actually where we
are from in the Netherlands… we have the biggest dinosaur park. I like that, the eyes. — Oh, yeah, all the eyes over there… They’re watching us. Yeah, well, this one’s fun. I think there used to be a carts,
like, going through here, you know? — Yeah, exactly. Oh, that’s a bloody dinosaur. But you know what I’m asking myself? What is this? Do you see this? — What? — On the wall. — What is it? I think it’s a black light. — Yeah, maybe. I think it used to be light. Of course, you have to imagine when
this attraction was all active and running. — Yes, yes? Oh, they’re calling us, “Explomo”… Yes? — Guys… Each surveillance camera… it looks like it’s still working. So, maybe we should leave the attraction… and go to another one. — There is a security camera? — With red light… — Yes, and it looks like it’s working. — Maybe security is
watching us on the camera. We are going to leave again. — That camera. — Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, that’s… — It looks like it’s working. — That’s still working, yeah. — It’s still working, it’s infrared. We’ve already been seen, I think. And while we were not sure yet if the
security had seen us on these cameras. We better start moving now. — And that’s where the fun begins. — Dang! This always used to be
one of my favorite rides… in a theme park. You know the banks that
would go up and down. I love it, man. Wow, it’s so massive! And look right next to us: the Free Fall. — It’s crazy, right? — It’s insane, man. Wow! — Ah, it’s so big. It’s unreal. — A humongous height. Seat belts. — Damn! — 60m tall. That’s high, man. — That’s really high. Which part is this?
Oh, damn! This is completely for children. I just can’t imagine this. — What? — It’s so big. — It’s huge. Yeah, I’m sorry, I’m getting
super excited about this. It’s… — We have it all for ourselves. It’s only us and the security right now. Oh, dang! There are even, like, old carts
and the everything there. But security can be actually
over here, don’t you think? — Yeah, because this gate is open. — Yeah, the gate over here is open. I think there used to be
a lot of shops over here. — Oh, yeah. Souvenir shops. — A very cozy street inside
of an amusement park. — Theme park shops. — It always feels like you’re
in a other world for a bit… another town, another city. — Yeah, exactly. They’re talking about drafting a cold beer. — Really? Do you think the draft is
still connected to the beer? — No. — I don’t think so, to be honest. — No, I don’t think so. — Oh, look, they even have still
the menu and everything here. — Yeah. Oh, sorry. Ah, it’s pretty cheap actually for… for such a place. — The saloon. One beer, please. — “Una cerveza”. — “Una cerveza, por favor”. It looks like this was a different… part of the park, that
was mostly focusing on … the younger children. — The younger children. — As the Ferris wheel
is also smaller in size. Over there, we’ve got a carousel. — A typical carousel. — All those little attractions
for the younger people. But very lovely. — Damn. But yeah, the these are tied down. But these are still, like, opened up. — By the way, have you seen… the side of that pirate
bar that we’ve just seen? It looks so cool. It’s richly decorated on the side… like a ship. — Oh yeah, this is pretty damn detailed. Do you want to go into the carousel? — Yeah, we can go to the top deck. — Ah, that’s cool, man. — They’ve got freaking elephants here. Chicken. — Damn! — You could even turn around in these ones. Oh, over here, you had boats. — The water is just green. — Yeah, bro. — Unbelievable! — And all of that, after only one year. Let’s just continue, man. I feel like security can
be close at any point. — Well, actually, before you continue,
that’s what he just told me. Like, security area is
right over there, yeah. So, we can film this. But only film it, like walk through it,
and more we shouldn’t do. — Okay. Then, let’s hurry. — Yeah. You know, and people,
you also might be thinking: “Why are you so cautious?” But the funny thing is that there is like
these carts right above my head. — Yeah, cable carts… — Cable carts… — …are going all the time above the park. — And just the imagination… that there’s like people constantly seeing:
“Hey, there are people down in that park.” — Yeah, people can just notice us all the time. Whoa! — What is it? Like, a roller coaster? — Well… This one’s trapped in a tunnel. But recently, light returned
at the end of that tunnel. After its closure, former workers
refused to let it die. They guarded the rides… repaired what they could,
and kept Tivoli’s heart beating. — Former Tivoli employees continue fighting for it’s reopening. — And their persistence finally paid off. Only months ago, the long-awaited
agreement to restore the park… finally became reality. A 200 million euro investment
that will reshape the park with 2 hotels and 1000 jobs. Reopening is slated for spring 2028. Until then, we’re one of the last
visitors the park has seen for now. If you liked this video,

Once the beating heart of the Costa del Sol, Tívoli World brought joy to millions since its opening in 1972. 🎡✨
Built in 1972 by a Danish visionary and inspired by Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens, this amusement park became a symbol of joy for millions of families who spent their summers here. 👨👩👧👦☀️
But after decades of operation, a chain of financial troubles, ownership disputes, and finally the 2020 pandemic brought it all to a standstill. Since then, its rides have stood silent. 🦠🚫
When we visited over four years ago, Tívoli World had already fallen into decay — yet former workers still patrolled the grounds, protecting what was left of their life’s work. Their dedication would not be forgotten. ✨
Today, hope finally returns: plans have been approved for a €200 million revitalization, two new hotels, and hundreds of jobs for the same workers who once kept the park alive. The reopening is now scheduled for spring 2028, marking a new chapter for this once-forgotten landmark. 🎢
Inside the abandoned grounds, we uncover the traces of its past and glimpse the dream that might soon live again:
🎠 Frozen rides trapped in time, including the park’s iconic water and roller-coaster attractions
🌴 Empty plazas once filled with laughter and music
🧭 Remnants of the park’s Danish heritage and 1970s design
