GIETHOORN: THE VILLAGE IN HOLLAND WITH NO CARS, ONLY BOATS – VENICE OF THE NORTH

Hello, virtual travelers! Get ready to join me on a laid-back adventure through Giethoorn, and let’s soak in the beauty of this charming village together! I decided to visit Giethoorn on a Tuesday morning to really soak in the peaceful vibes before the crowds show up. It’s so nice to wander around when the village is still waking up, and you can really take in all the views. I always love visiting places during quieter times—it just makes the experience even more special! How about you? Dio you like to visit the places during busy times or you prefer it to visit when quiet? Look at the cure cat! He is lucky to be living here among all this beauty… Giethoorn is such a special little village! It’s often called the “Venice of the North” because of all the canals and those cute thatched-roof houses. Fun fact: the name “Giethoorn” actually comes from “geitenhoorns,” or goat horns, because the early settlers found a lot of them in the area. The village doesn’t have roads in the old part, so everyone gets around by boat or bike, and there are over 180 wooden bridges connecting everything. It’s just one of those places that makes you feel like you’re stepping into a storybook! Where are you watching from? Share where you’re tuning in from in the comments! Look at these beautiful wooden tulips! The Netherlands is famous for its tulip fields, and these flowers have become a symbol of the country. check out these fun clog-inspired slippers! Traditional Dutch clogs, or ‘klompen,’ have been worn for centuries. Sometimes, you might even spot people still wearing traditional clogs in some village areas today, keeping that charming Dutch tradition alive! And there’s even a giant wooden clog on the floor that you can step into for a fun photo! These oversized clogs are a playful nod to Dutch tradition and make for a great souvenir snapshot! If you are enjoying this video, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe. Thank you!🙏 Giethoorn is quite popular among tourists for its picturesque, car-free village atmosphere. People love visiting to enjoy the peaceful canals, rent boats, and explore the charming thatched-roof cottages. Walking through this village sometimes doesn’t feel real. It’s like a scene from a story. If you’re enjoying this virtual stroll, let me know what city you’d like to explore next. I’m always open to suggestions! In this village, you won’t find any cars around. Instead, everyone gets around by walking, hopping into a boat, or of course, biking! The Netherlands is super famous for its biking culture. I mean, everyone knows the classic image of Dutch folks happily riding their bikes everywhere, and this village is no exception to that! Our little friend is here again! 🙂 In Giethoorn, you can actually rent a boat and explore the canals on your own. They’ve got different options: you can choose a small, easy-to-drive boat that you navigate yourself, or if you’d rather just sit back and relax, you can hop on a guided boat tour and let someone else do the steering. Either way, it’s a super fun way to see the village! It’s amazing how the history of the village goes all the way back to the 13th century! Plus, the fact that it even made it onto the international Monopoly board is pretty fun. Just picture waking up in this cozy village, where instead of cars, you’ve got boats and bikes. It should be so relaxing and unique to be living here… What’s your favorite Dutch dish? Let us know! I personally love Kroket sandwiches with mustard sauce! Yummy 😋 Giethoorn is home to about 2,500 people. It’s a small village, but it welcomes visitors from all over the world who come to see its canals and peaceful charm. If you are enjoying this video, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe. Thank you!🙏 This road, Dominee T.O. Hylkemaweg, is where you’ll arrive if you take the bus into Giethoorn and start walking toward the center of the village. t’s a lovely spot in the morning, with boats lined up along the canal and shop owners just starting their day, getting the boats ready for a peaceful ride through the village. Renting a boat in Giethoorn is pretty simple and a lot of fun. You can choose from different types of boats, like whisper boats or canoes. Usually, you can book ahead online, which is a good idea if it’s a busy time of year, or you can just walk in and rent one on the spot if it’s quieter. Before you set off, the rental staff will give you a quick lesson on how to operate the boat and a map to help you navigate the canals. No boating license is needed, and life jackets are provided, especially for kids. Options range from 1 to 3 hours, depending on your chosen route. Ensure you return the boat on time to avoid additional charges. It’s a great way to explore the village at your own pace! What’s one city in The Netherlands that’s on your travel bucket list? Tell us in the comments! Please give this video a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel. Thank you!🙏 And that brings us to the end of our peaceful walk through Giethoorn. I’m so grateful that I could share this moment with you through the magic of YouTube. Until next time, take care and keep exploring the beauty around you, near or far…

  5. What an absolute pleasure it is to walk through this gorgeous village with you. Those manicured lawns, trimmed hedges and more gorgeous abodes as you walk through. The ducks and boats in the waterways just so great to look at. Nice little coffee and specialty shops for the area. The residents must be so proud to live in such beauty. I know I would be proud to live in such a place. It must cost a fortune. That beautiful cat just stretched out lounging, enjoying the passers-by. All those cottages having there own personality. You can easily see why people flock to visit such beautiful places like this one. I especially like how all those little bridges connect everything. Thank you so much for bringing this village to youtube, so as I can enjoy it as much as you did filming. I'm only a disabled pensioner now, who can't get around easily now, so I spend a lot of my time on youtube watching walking videos from around the world and have now just discovered your channel so I have now subscribed to check out some of your other offerings. Which I'm sure I will enjoy as much as I have with this one.
    Cheers from Sydney Down Under.

  18. Eu amo Giethoorn.

  19. Beautiful! Thank you for sharing. Car-free is the key. The emphasis here is on people, on quality of life, not developers' pockets as where I live in the USA, the exact opposite. I hope the village can keep its peace and won't get overrun with tourists.

  20. Niteroi RJ Brasil. Hare Krishna🌹
