A Taiwanese woman was arrested on Sept. 12 after attempting to smuggle 20kg of liquid marijuana into Japan, Kansai International Airport police said yesterday.
The woman was apprehended when a sniffer dog found the largest volume of liquid marijuana seized at Kansai airport in a decade, Japanese customs said.
The woman surnamed Huang (黃), 30, was traveling from Bangkok to the Kansai airport — the closest airport to Osaka, Japanese newspaper the Mainichi reported, adding that she claimed to work as a security guard.

She contravened Japan’s Narcotics and Psychotropics Control Act and was smuggling the drugs to turn a profit, airport police said, although they did not disclose whether she had confessed to the offense.
Upon entering the baggage claim area, Huang retrieved two pieces of checked luggage and was pushing the suitcases on a cart when a sniffer dog alerted police, Kansai Airport Branch Customs said.
The 20kg of liquid marijuana were concealed in 37 containers, including shampoo bottles and cans of food, they said.
The market value of the drugs has not yet been determined, they added.
