The beloved San-X character Rilakkuma, arguably a professional at being lazy, participated in the 3rd TOKYO Space-Out Competition on Monday, November 3.
The event, held at MIYASHITA PARK in Shibuya, saw the famous bear attempt to “space out,” but the appearance ended in a surprising and swift disqualification.

The “Space-Out Competition” (or ‘Bo-tto Suru Taikai’) is a competitive wellness event, originating in Korea, where participants compete to “space out” and do nothing, with winners judged by heart-rate stability and audience votes.

As a “pro” at relaxing, Rilakkuma first appeared on stage before the match to give a “model demonstration” of how to properly space out, wrapping the venue in a healing atmosphere.

When the competition officially began, Rilakkuma joined the other participants on the lawn.

However, the bear’s “my pace” personality soon emerged, as Rilakkuma was spotted looking back at other participants.

The situation worsened when the bear was handed a “fufuly” breathing cushion, which Rilakkuma promptly dropped.

As a result of these infractions, officials gave Rilakkuma a red card just 15 minutes into the competition.
The disqualified bear was then escorted off the field by event security.

Despite the early exit, Rilakkuma returned for the award ceremony after the competition concluded.

The character presented the tournament’s winner with a “Rilakkuma Goods Assortment Set” and joined in the group photo, maintaining the venue’s calm atmosphere until the end.
