Eating ONLY at Japanese CONVENIENCE STORES for 24 hours!

Today, we are challenging ourselves to only eat at convenience stores in Japan for the next 24 hours. That means that all of our food, our drinks, and snacks will have to come from either Family Mart, 7-Eleven, or Lawson today because they are the three main convenience stores we’ve seen throughout Japan so far. Honestly, I’m not sure if it’s going to be that much of a challenge because the food does look good. But also, we have planned to go to Kobe today, home of Kobe Beef. But we’re going to try and stick to this challenge anyway. And first up, it is time for breakfast. I’m definitely hungry and in need of a coffee. And Family Mart is the closest to our hotel. So, let’s see what they have. So, we found our selection here. They seem to have a lot of sushi, a lot of rice balls, and they look really, really tasty. And I guess I’m going to go for the mayo one. This one does look good. It says egg mayo sauce with rice and seaweed. And honestly, I love that there is like a little description in English on a lot of these. And it looks pretty good. It has a good size, too. So, I guess this one will be pretty filling. Yeah, it is a good size actually. Okay, first thing selected. Although, this one also looks like egg and rice. And they have like a little hamburger cheese. Okay, we’re going to go for two eggs, but also this little It says chicken egg. I don’t know where the chicken is. Maybe under meat like a burger, but it looks interesting. So, we’re going to try this one as well. Let’s check out also two coffees. Here we go. We’ve actually hit the jackpot today because this one has a seating area, which we haven’t come across all that much so far in Japan. And that is particularly handy because there are like no bins in Japan. So if you like have your coffee while you walk, you’re stuck with your coffee mug for like the full day almost. So yeah, let’s try. I think I’m going to go for the egg one first. Smells good. It does. Just like an egg right there in the middle. Okay. Cheers. Cheers. So good. Yeah, that’s pretty good. I’m drinking by the omelette one. So, I’m going to take a bite of that one now, too. It’s a little like slimy there. I don’t know what that is, but What you think is that? That one’s okay. I don’t know what the sauce is. It’s like a jam or jelly rolls. It’s just more like um egg on top of rice, right? Yeah. Nothing special there, but it’s still all right. Moment of truth, though. Real test is the coffee. Cheers. Good one. Pretty good. Tastes pretty strong, actually. So, all this together cost 1,144 yen, which is about €640. So, pretty good for breakfast. It’s been just a little over 2 hours since we had our breakfast, but I am getting hungry already. But we have made it to Kobe. And we are now in this area called Kitano which is a very important area because after the Japan’s borders were closed for over 200 years. This is the area where where most merchants and diplomats settled. So it has a very western style. Like the architecture, the houses, they look very much like some of them even like the ones in San Francisco. Yeah. It doesn’t really feel like we’re in Japan at all anymore. But I hope there’s 7-Eleven nearby. Let’s go. [Music] What are you doing? Just having a quick look. We’re not allowed to eat that. It looks really nice though. It does. Is this not the coolest Starbucks as well? I’ve never seen it in like a colonial style building like this before. Very fancy. I’m done. A lot of stuff actually seems to be gone for this one. And I guess I haven’t restocked it. And maybe it’s after the like morning wrap. They do have these like salted rice bowls. Feel like you can’t really go wrong with that. They also just have like one left of the red salmon and salt. So it must be popular. I’ll try this one as well. Scratch everything I just picked up because I have just seen this which I’ve not seen before, but I think it’s tuna, egg, crab, cucumber. They look really, really nice. So I’m going to give these ones a go. Main thing we love about 7-Eleven is that they do have these smoothies. We have tried it like once or twice already. So, they are really good and you can just like make them up in the shop as well, which is honestly so handy. Uh I think I’m going to get a greens once. Probably didn’t need greens. We’ll get today. I’ll have the berries and yogurt one. Berries and yogurt. And their sweet aisle also looks so good, but we haven’t tried a single one of them yet. So, we’re going to give one a go now. Going to go for these ones. We’ve seen recommendations for them online, so I hope they’re good. We need a bag. I know I have one. I brought back a plastic bag. Nice idea. This one doesn’t have a seating area, so I have to eat it outside. All right, first things first. We got to make our smoothie. And we have to scan the code first. Take the lid off. Put it in the blender. [Music] start. All right, first one is finished. I mean, it looks good, but it didn’t actually do the best job of blending that. Yeah, I love it. It’s amazing. Now, comes the awkward part of actually eating this when there isn’t um seating inside. I have heard it’s a bit frowned upon pond to eat on the streets and stuff, but we have no other option, so we’re going to do it right outside 7-Eleven. So, we can use their bin after as well. This my smoothie looks pretty good. Some lumps in it as well, but it tastes pretty good. So, for those two smoothies, the rice ball, another omelette rice thing, the sweets, and the kind of sushi thing, it was €1,700 yen. So, it was about €10. A little bit awkward eating, I’m not going to lie. We did find a little concrete thing to sit on, but we got to eat quickly. Do we get any chopsticks or anything? No. No. Okay. First things first, actually, is have hand sanitizer. It comes in a little pack ofum soya sauce. I’m going to try and pour that over and not make a mess with this. This is not the thing to eat on this side of the street. That’s what they look like. Cheers. What a vibe. There’s a truck pulling in one foot away from us. So, that’s our current view. Honestly, it’s pretty good. There’s not that much of a strong flavor from it, but maybe that’s just cuz of what I picked. But, I actually quite like that. I think you’d like it, too. All right. So, I picked up my second omelette rice bowl thing. Mhm. But this one has ketchup. So, it actually tastes like a McDonald’s burger to me. Ooh, not going to lie. Yeah. M interesting. Yeah. Maybe the ketchup. Same sweet ketchup. Mhm. That was our lovely lunch seat. We’re in a different street alleyway now. Time to try the sweets. Oh. Oh. Oh, that intense. What the hell? They smell really nice when you open it, but I don’t know if I like that smell. Smells very artificial. What color do you want? Blue. Okay, I’m going to go orange. Oh. Oh, what the heck? It’s um hard but chewy. Mhm. But like you It’s chewy. Like you’re chewy, but you’re not breaking it down at all. I think I kind of like it. M. It’s in a way like a gummy bear. Mine tastes a little bit like cola. Oh, mine was orange. That’s so weird. That was a roller coaster, honestly. But I actually like them. Very weird at the start. Don’t get me wrong. They’re very weird. Very interesting. Never had a gummy like it, but I think I’ll get addicted to these very easily. M. [Music] And after our lunch, we have come to what is probably the oldest shrine in Japan. It’s called Ikuta Shrine and it dates back to the year 201. Like that’s crazy and it’s so beautiful. And right now there’s like ceremony going on for children it seems. I’m not sure what exactly, but it’s very beautiful. They’re all dressed up in their kimonas and stuff, which really adds to the charm of this place right now. Kobe is really um really nice, really exceeding our expectations so far. But let’s keep exploring. [Music] We just passed the Kobe Beef Restaurant on the right side, and they had a 300 g steak that cost 560. That is wild. I’m starting to think it’s probably a good thing we’re doing the um challenge today. We probably couldn’t afford to eat anything today anyway. But to be fair, if you are going to pay and get Kobe beef, you may as well do it here in Kobe because this is the region that the cattle are raised that will become eligible to be classed as Kobe beef. And only 3,000 cows a year are classed as high enough quality to be labeled as Kobe. So that is crazy. Yeah. And pro tip, if you’re here and you’re going to eat uh Koba beef, ask for the certificate because they have to be certified for it to to be able to sell it. Some vendors or some restaurants here, they sell also Koba beef, but it’s not the actual Kobe beef, but they call it Kobe beef because the cattle is raised or Yeah, raised in in coobe. So that would be such a disappointment. So yeah. Yeah. Yeah, if you’re already paying €500 for a steak, then better be a You would want to be Oh my god, imagine. So, there’s our top tip of the day. Ice cream cone mix. Would really love to try it. Honestly, it was also recommended by someone that uh watched our videos and the person said we definitely should try the mixoo. We missed out in China and here it is. Here it is. First time seeing it since and there’s quite the cube forming so it definitely must be good as well. Yeah. But we can’t we can’t we got our we committed to the challenge. So we are back in the convenience store. I honestly don’t know if it’s just like walking in the streets and like smelling meat because street smells so good here that’s making me like even hungrier. So I need another snack. And we walk right in and there’s like this full fridge, I guess, of what look like energy drinks/health drinks. So, I think I’m going to try one. This one has like 12 vitamins. It’s like a jelly. I’m going to get this one. You’re also going for one. Yeah, I guess I’m going to go for this one with calcium, zinc, copper, and magnesium. We’re going to be so healthy after this. This is Lawson selection. They have so much different kind of dishes here as well. Even just the rice ones. Like this is a grilled one. I haven’t seen that before. And here they have little fruit cups which I also haven’t seen anywhere else. I feel like no um convenience store day would be complete without like a salmon. What are these? What are they called? Oniri or something. So I’m going to pick up one of those. And grilled rice also looks amazing. So, I don’t know. It’s caught my attention. Do you want to look at the snacks again? Yeah. Okay. We’ve come across this section as well that looks really nice here. I think we’re going to go for chocolate almonds. Sounds good. Look how good they look. I think we’re sorted. Yeah. [Music] Okay. Another standing lunch, snack, whatever you call this. I don’t know. Second lunch. I have to start with the vitamin drink for sure. It feels so thick, but it’s cold as well. Oh, smells like cod liver oil or something. Smells very artificial. Oh, as well. Smells like I don’t know. Oh, yours smells nicer. Really? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Mine smells like copper. I don’t really like it. I mean, it’s not bad enough that I won’t finish it, but I won’t get it again for sure. Yeah. Mine is also not as nice as I thought. Yeah. Anyway, at least we’ll get our vitamins, we think. Okay, what’s next? Next, I guess. Oh, ambulance. [Applause] [Music] Oh, it’s right down there. I hope they’re okay. I’m going to try the classic salmon. I love that they keep the seaw seaweed separate so it’s like still crispy when you It still seems fresh when you try it. It’s all right there. It’s okay. Mhm. It’s not as nice as the other ones before or as the mayo one, but um it has a nice sesame sauce. I also got the grilled rice as well to try. So, tastes like it’s cooked in soy sauce. That’s really nice. Last but not least, I’m going to go straight in for the chalky almonds. [Music] And all of this costs 1,600ish yen, which is approximately €9. So, we’re currently at 2425. Yeah. So, pretty good. And honestly, the food is always filling. So, it get keeps us going for a few hours, [Music] Kobe. [Music] [Music] I can’t believe we just stumbled across like a K-pop group. It seems like auditions or something cuz there were like hundreds of camera people there as well recording everything. That’s so fun. People are loving this one. Are we missing out? Let’s have a quick look. We’ll have a quick look at this one. That’s crazy. So fun. But now the sun is setting. We’re heading back to the station to head back to Osaka and get our dinner there. [Music] I am so happy to be finally sitting down. We arrived in Kobe eight hours ago and I think one of the biggest challenges with this convenience store challenge is the fact that besides some random cement thing on the side of the street. We haven’t sat down in the full 8 hours and we’ve done 17,000 steps today. My legs are wrecked. [Music] We may be a little lost in a backa station because this is so big. So, these sweets are really coming in handy, keeping us going. So, for dinner, we’re going to try the Family Mart and the 7-Eleven. We’re going to do both because we want to mix it up a little bit. So, let’s check out Family Mark first. So, we are down at the bottom of the aisles this time. All of our breakfast and lunch were up here with the little rice balls. And we’re kind of thinking of doing a little Italian cuz there’s like a carbonara style rice. And this is like a meat sauce. Dora, we checked it. It kind of seems like bolognese basically with rice. We are gluten intolerant. So it does make this a little bit harder, but that seems really interesting to me. So I think we’ve got a good start. Maybe. I have here a fine cheese dora dora. Five different cheeses. So it sounds good to me. Yum. We’re going to be well fed anyway. Actually, that’s not all that we’re going to get here in family mode because we’ve seen these little packets of salad. We think they’re already pre-washed anyway. So, I think we’re going to be healthy and try and have a little side salad. And there’s this sauce. It’s like an onion sauce. There’s also fried potatoes. Yeah. Freezer. Yeah. A lot of frozen dishes here. You’ve got potatoes. Even got carbonara. Like, wow, those noodles actually look so good. Honestly, there’s so many good options here. There’s even fried rice over here in bags. Okay, let’s not get too carried away here. We have another shop to go to. We have made it to 7-Eleven now. It’s actually looking pretty empty at the moment. Maybe we’re a little bit late to it, but there are still some really good options, like especially pass options, which I didn’t like expect. There’s even like literal squid ink pasta, but it’s not much. This is rice ball with egg and soy sauce. That looks a little questionable. I’m not going to lie, actually. But these ones here, there’s like curry rice graten with chicken and vegetables. We’re spoiled for choice again. I think this looks I think we should go for that. Yeah, that’s a good idea. We’ll do curry along with our pasta night out. Don’t judge us. And then I’m thinking snacks and a fun drink that we haven’t tried yet as well. Okay, there’s a lot of different drinks to choose from, but I think this one is screaming out to me. Yuzu and lemon soda. Chocolate section here again is very interesting. Feel like we’ve seen I’m seeing a lot of this Ghana brand. So, we are going to go for I think this one. So, there was actually a seating area in the 7-Eleven, Bob. So, we have stuff from 7-Eleven and Family. So, I didn’t think we could stay there. And our hostel does actually have like a sky bar, which is really cool with microwave and stuff. So, let’s eat. It’s actually pretty nice in here. I’m going straight to the sauce into the salad bag, which could be a genius idea or a really bad one. [Music] Got it. That honestly took a lot longer than I anticipated to microwave them all because once they’re all done, the first one was cold again. So, we had to top them up. But, we’ve got them all here. We’ve got them all mixed up. Honestly, the carbonara smells the best. So, I’m going to start with that one. I think we’re just going to do a taste test of them all. That’s a really good carbonar. If I got that out in a restaurant, I’d be so happy with that. Next up here is a rice with four cheese. Cheesy. So nice. It’s like a pizza. Like, you know, the pizza with the four cheeses. It’s basically the cheese from pizza. That’s really nice. Okay, now we have the veg curry. They’re all so good. Honestly, another 10 out of 10. I don’t think you can go wrong with curry here. M Japanese curry is like one of my favorites. Okay, this one was what? The spaghetti bolognese or something. I’m the most iffy about. Pretty good, but my least favorite. But we can’t forget our bag of salad. One bit of health in it. Oh, probably not that healthy with mint sauce I put in. It’s honestly very very good. Like all of it. It’s so delicious. Yeah, it’s like in a restaurant almost. If I got any of these in a restaurant, I’d be so happy. So happy. And this all cost I guess €15 in the end. Let’s try the drink actually. Also good. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Maybe you just can’t make a bad decision here. All right, we’re going to enjoy this. We’ll come back for dessert. [Music] Okay, we’re in our little hostel room and we’ve got our last thing to try, which is this chocolate. I mean, this has got to be the safest really of the day. It’s chocolate. What can go wrong? But give it a taste. That’s really nice, actually. And we’ve had it in the fridge, so it’s even better. What a perfect way to end the day. And a perfect way to end the challenge. So, on our channel already, we’ve done one other challenge, and that was to walk across all of Singapore in one day. And I will say this challenge much easier. Absolutely. And there are a few good things like few pros we noticed about this challenge. Number one, I feel like we had so much more time exploring Kobe because we didn’t like go into a restaurant, sit down and have a slower paced meal. We literally exploring for pretty much all of the 8 hours. Number two, it’s really good on a budget. We spent just what was it? Um, I think it was €35 in total. Yeah. So, we just spent €35 for the two of us on food for the day and we got a lot of extra food because we were trying new things. So, really, really good option if you’re on a budget. But thirdly, doesn’t even matter if you’re on a budget. That food was so good, so tasty. There’s some really good finds in the convenience food stores here. Yeah, honestly was so good. Better in some restaurants. But anyway, after all that great food and over 20,000 steps today, we are ready for bed. So, we’re gonna end the video here. So, if you enjoyed this video, please leave a like and let us know if you want to see more challenges in the future. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe to the channel and see you in the next one. Bye. [Music]

  1. Loved this video!! We were just in Japan two weeks ago!! I was shocked at the amount of times we ended up eating food from convenience stores…lol. 7-11 was like 1000x better than here in the states! So handy, quick and delicious…we ate a lot of their hot food, like chicken and steam buns…but everything we tried was good. The dessert selection was incredible. I normally have problems with gluten, but for some reason in Japan, I was able to eat whatever I wanted with no problem. It was great. We did try some Kobe beef in Tokyo…oh my…probably one of the tastiest meals I've ever had…😋…but it was definitely pricey. You guys are so fun to watch…subscribing to your channel!
