Kyoto in summer Kyoto in sumer – Hidden galleries Kyoto in summer – Best Kaiseki & vegan meals Kyoto in summer – Arashiyama day trip Let’s start Day 1 – Rest and recharge 15:42, 20 September 2025 Hi welcome to another vlog Fuji Hotel Gojo, We’lll be in Kyoto for the next few days I found this hotel for a decent price on Air BnB It’s central but in a quiet neighbourhood It’s also really close to the main Kyoto train station Let’s get something to eat, I’m super hungry I’m meeting my sister at a ramen place near Kawaramachi-dori It’s about a 10 minute walk from the main shopping street Engine ramen We waited about 15 minutes to be seated after arriving They have a variety of gluten free, vegan, and meat dishes here Genuine miso ramen 1000 yen The ramen looks and smells amazing, I can’t wait to dig in I chose the meat option but you can also get a vegan ramen The broth is creamy and rich in umami flavour, yummy It’s nice to take a walk along Kawaramachi-dori after dark It’s bustling with night life and shops stay open quite late If you don’t mind the crowds then this place is perfect Day 2 – Shrines and Kimonos 07:20 21 September 2025 We’re going to hike Fushimi-inari shrine today We planned to wake up super early but overslept A 7-eleven breakfast is a must on early days There is a train station right outside the shrine That simplifies the journey alot Fushimi-inari Taisha It’s around 8am, and its already packed I think you would need to be here by 6am to avoid the crowds Nevertheless, it’s still a beautiful shrine There are rest stops about every 10-15 minutes The further up the shrine you get the emptier it gets But the vending machines get pricier too So it’s best to bring water with you There are fox messenger statues dotted all around the shrine And you can get some cool souvenirs on the way up We somehow passed the top without knowing So make sure to pay attention to the signs lol Later that day… Kimono rental Rikawafuku Gion store We spontaneously decided to rent kimonos It was pretty easy to book on the website Yasaka shrine There are many beautiful shrines around Gion So if you want to take photos you have many options The shrine is lively with lots going on It’s also right next to a big park In the spring this park is usually full of cherry blossoms They have some night performances and markets too I can only imagine how beautiful it would be I hope I can see the cherry blossoms one day Kodaiji temple There is a small 600 yen entry fee for this temple It’s totally worth is though, the views are insanely beautiful It kind of reminds me of the headquarters in the demons slayer anime Although the fictional headquarters are at Tenryu-ji temple There is also a small bamboo forest It’s quite the hike to get up here though Kawaii (cute in Japanese) Arigato gozaimasu (thank you in Japanese) I was afraid I would be judged for wearing a kimono But a Japanese lady complimented me! That made me really happy It’s time to return the kimonos now Time for dinner! Pontocho one of Kyotos famous dining areas This area is filled with hundreds of restaurants and bars There is an alley full of traditional to modern Kyoto restaurants They generally open around 5pm [ but times vary by place] Mumokuteki good & wears My sister is vegetarians so we try to find places with variety There aren’t many vegetarian options in Pontocho Mumokuteki offers a range of excellent vegan only dishes So if you’re veggie you can also try traditional meals Tofu hamburger steak-gozen 1800 yen The concept is “creating life” A place and time where people and their creations come together. [Mumokuteki specialises in food, goods & wears, antiques & repairs and farming] The meal comes with a number of fresh side dishes It’s a feast of flavours and for the eyes Mumokuteki is located inside Teramachi-dori shopping street There are many food stalls like this around here They have so many different options Which to chose? Baby castella (berries & cream) 800 yen Delicious, can’t go wrong with berries and cream Day 3 sushi & day trips 10:16 22 September 2025 Today were going to visit Arashiyama It’s a beautiful district outskirts of Kyoto I have some important business to attend to first though Nishiki market Nishiki market is known as “Kyoto’s kitchen” You can find traditional Japanese and westernised cuisine here I’m not really into seafood much but I love sushi Let’s try to find some! 魚の有, Nishiki market This place had some good reviews Fatty tuna nigiri ~1000 yen The presentation alone is great but let’s do a taste test My Japanese friends taught me to use soy sauce sparingly It tastes very fresh and just melts in your mouth I really want to get more but I have to save space You can spice things up a bit by adding some ginger Delightful Let’s move onto the next stall! Wagyu station, Nishiki market I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to try Kobe beef in Kyoto But why not? It’s my first time trying wagyu in Japan I’m very excited Kobe beef Wagyu stick 3000 yen It looks so succulent and juicy The meat is very tender, but lacked flavour It was good but not sure I would get it again Hirano, Nishiki market Tempura time! Shrimp tempura & omelette 1000 yen They fry the food freshly after ordering, so it’s piping hot The tempura was so good, I can’t explain in words The omelette did not disappoint,10/10 It’s harder to eat than you would think I can’t leave this place without satisfying sweet tooth There are so many choices of dessert here まるもち家 錦小路店, Nishiki market I saw this place from a distance and decided to come here The store clerks commentary was gold Mizu shingen mochi [raindrop jelly] I lost the footage, but the dessert was light and refreshing You can also buy goods like umbrellas or pottery here The shopkeeper enticed me with a sample of delicious tea They have so may cute chopstick holders and small plates At the end of Nishiki market is this beautiful temple It’s connected to the shopping street we were at yesterday It’s a great place to shop, but we have other plans You can take the bus from Nishiki market straight to Arashiyama It takes about 40 minutes from central Kyoto You can also take the train, but may need to change trains This view is majestic Many people are taking boat rides along the Katsura river today It seems to be the perfect day for this kind of thing Though I’m content just people watching And I love the teal colour of the river There is a museum hidden behind the trees in this area The entrance looks like something out of a Ghibli movie Arashiyama Yusai-tei gallery I reserved a space online but you can also pay at the entrance P.S *you have to take off your shoes to enter the gallery Yasunari Kawabata’s Room The gallery has a number of different rooms that you can explore They are all surrounded by nature Yusai-tei, built about 150 years ago on the site of Emperor Kameyama’s former villa, is a historic Meiji-era building in Kyoto’s scenic Arashiyama. Once the famous culinary inn Chidori, it was loved by geisha and maiko and visited by Nobel laureate Yasunari Kawabata. Today, the gallery showcases the luminous dye artworks of Yusai, whose Yume-kôrozome technique changes color with light—inviting you to experience Japan’s timeless beauty
and seasons along the emerald Katsura River. Round windows room The gallery opens all year round Right now the trees are still green If you come here a month later they may be red This is perfect place to observe the autumn foliage In Kyoto the best time to see the autumn leaf foliage is November If you’re lucky you may be able to see them in September There are art supplies and paintings around the gallery A lot of the painting are on fabric I love this painting! Very stylish Scenic terrace This is a perfect place to take in the views of the river The bell chimes make this place seem very mystical I was in my own world and lost track of time sitting here I feel like I’ve been transported to a different world There is another exhibit next to the terrace Water mirrors The whole gallery is filled why ‘mirrors’ Inside the tables have pitch black glass Outside the reflections are made using tinted water You can distort reality by using the paintbrushes Be careful not to splash yourself though I could spend hours here, but time is limited There is a viewpoint near the gallery I hear that you can see the mountains from there Arashiyama park viewpoint There is hardly anyone here I love going off the beaten path I managed to catch some autumn leaves from the viewpoint too Arashiyama bamboo forest The park and the bamboo forest are connected And it’s a scenic walk back to the main street Kotoimo Honpo There are lots of food stalls outside the forest I was craving something sweet Walking along these streets reminds me of last year It was raining but equally as beautiful as today Today the sun is shining Sunny weather always lifts my mood Do yo know what also lifts my mood ? Rilakkuma tea house Rilakkuma lemonade soda 858 yen Super refreshing! Visiting the tram station is a must You can see some pretty cool trains and a forest here Arashiyama kimono forest Pretty cool forest right? The “Kimono Forest” surrounds the Randen tram station on Kyoto’s Keifuku Arashiyama line. It was built in 2013 an consists of textile displays dyed in the traditional Kyo-yuzen style. Each pattern of kimono textile was selected by Yasumichi Morita, the artist of this project. The original idea of this installation was to “give a fresh air to the station while still keeping the old tradition”. Donut stand lol I have been seeing these donuts everywhere The anticipation is real… Crème brulee donut 500 yen The donut has a cake texture and the cream is lovely That was a nice pre-dinner snack The tram station is one of the prettiest I’ve seen I love this display of flowers, it’s so colourful Togetsukyo bridge Visiting the Togetsukyo bridge is also a must It even prettier than I remember It’s very lively but peaceful and the same time Time to head back to central Kyoto for dinner Its about 5pm now The sun is already starting to set The restaurant is next to Fushimi-inari shrine Itsukichaya, Fushimi Inari Itsukichaya serve traditional kaiseki meals for a great price There are several branches across Kyoto I ate at the Arashiyama location last year So this time I wanted to try another location If you want to eat at the main branch in Arashiyama- It’s best to make a reservation a week before I made a reservation for this place a couple of days before In my humble opinion both locations are beautiful There is a direct view of the shrine from the first floor You can people watch whilst eating Kyoto Bowl Five Type Tasting Set
(Pork, Loin Sukiyaki, Autumn Version) 4000 yen 晴れの日御膳 (Harenohi Gozen) translates to “celebratory day meal” or “special occasion meal” The meal includes: Golden egg rice bowl, seafood hand-rolled sushi,
wagyu beef shabu shabu rice bowl, seasonal tempura, dashi pork shabu shabu, vegetables and a white rice pot There are instructions to help you enjoy the meal Our time in Kyoto is coming to an end soon I thought this would be the perfect way to end the trip A feast of Japanese flavours It brings the whole trip together perfectly The golden egg rice tastes wonderful And getting to cook your own food is great Sorry for ending abruptly but I hope you enjoyed Kyoto See you on the next one!
