Tokyo Street Food You MUST Try in 2025 (Azabu Juban)

Today we’re exploring the street foods of one of the most charming districts in Tokyo, Azabu Juba. This place is known for mixing the old and the new traditional Japanese food shops standing right next to stylish cafes and international bakeries. We’ve got everything on this video from bagels to Japanese sweets. So, let’s start exploring Azabu Juban to see what makes this place special, especially for foodies. Aab Juban shopping street is a local shopping street that’s been around since Edo period. You can feel the old Tokyo atmosphere. But what’s really cool is that you can also find lots of new modern shops. It’s actually one of the most trendiest areas in the city. The first shop is Tanuki Sbe. It’s rice cracka shop. This shop is established 97 years ago. Their specialty is rice cracka. Rice cracka name is tanuki. They bake their rice crack in the shop. Yes, this is that one. They have five variation of this one. This is a solest one because they dip soy sauce twice. Okay, this is a cracker. I crack into half. Oh, it’s lighter than I imagined. I like lighter type so m this texture not super hard, not super soft. This is very nice texture. I imagine really salty taste, but it’s not. It’s beautiful soy sauce taste. I I read in the shop they are using very special soy sauce. Yes, this one has a nice umami of salt. I am the connoisseur of sambe or rice crackers. I love these. M. These are not as salty as I expected them to be. Anyway, I’m so hungry today. We didn’t eat anything all day. So, let’s hurry to the next place. All right. Next shop is a place called Azabu Karinto. Karinto is a traditional deep fried snack, a Japanese snack, and it’s usually flavored with a black sugar or brown sugar. And it’s really delicious, one of my favorites. But this shop managed to make a variety of them. So, they got creative. And it’s one of my favorite shops for Karin. This shop is actually two in one. They also have a cookie shop as well as a rice cracker shop. I think it’s all owned by the same company. So, we got one of their autumn collection and this consists of three different karinto in one. There’s apple pie flavor, chestnut, and raisin. This one is the raisin. I think I’m going to love this. [Music] I do wish there was some ramen here, but it is delicious. Look, it’s airy on the inside. Super super crunchy. It’s deep fried. It’s just sweet enough. Sweetened with brown sugar. Delicious. Yum, yum, yum. I think this is the apple pie. Oh, yeah. You can taste the apple as well as a hint of cinnamon. So, it means it’s not for me. It’s definitely not for you. It’s not strong though. And this one right here is the chestnut. There we go. This one’s quite subtle, but I do get that hint of chestnut. I got to say my favorite is definitely the apple pie. There’s so many variety of karinto here. There’s even some savory ones and not just sweet. So, you’re bound to find something you like. Definitely give this a try because it is a traditional Japanese snack. So, the next shop is also very wellestablished. It’s called Nani since 1909. More than 100 years history. And this is their specialty. It’s tayyaki. It looks very crispy. Beautiful tayyaki in Japan. It’s little bit burnt. It’s nice. So, and this shop is very popular. We had to wait about 15 minutes to get this. Look this ago aim paste. So much anko inside. M. What a crispy outside. Very thin sakuto crispiness. But it’s hold this anko very tightly. Very nice. And this anko has a just right sweetness and it’s bumpy. The texture is firm. I don’t eat ankoin paste so often, but this one I can eat every day. So, next place is Kishimaya, and they specialize in these pastries called Imagawa Yaki. And this is a Tokyo favorite. And I noticed there’s a slight difference between like uh the the ones I find at like supermarkets in here. This one is like really really crispy on the outside. It’s drier and of course it’s it’s filled with anko sweetenuki bean paste. They do also have fillings of cheese or custard cream, but they were sold out today. So it’s the only one they had. M. It’s really really full of azuki. And you know what’s interesting? The flavor and the sweetness level of this azuki filling is quite different from the tayyaki one. It’s completely different. This one it seems smoother and it tastes almost like they’re using a different sugar. That’s so interesting. But the outside is like a squishy, slightly chewy pancake with a little bit of like brown sugar flavor. M. That is delicious. So the next shop is Kushimaya Oden Shop. This shop has long history more than 100 years. ODM is a sim dish. Various ingredients simmered in the soy sauce base soup. You can buy individually but uh today we bought a set. This one is B set. They also have a set consist of hampen, boiled egg, comb seaweed, chiku and sach. Sach is shinichi’s favorite favorite. So I save for him. Thank you. So, and I like hampen. This is a fishcake, but it’s very airy, fluffy thing. M. Very cream fish taste. It’s so nice and very soft, smooth. It’s like a cloud. And this is called chikuabu. Chikuabu is made with white gluten. It’s bouncy. Also, it’s so this does taste so nicely and ku seaweed. This one gives a nice umami umami. The combination with this dashi soup so good. Oh, this dashi soup is so nice. All right, thank you for saving this for me. The satsumag fish cake. This one is deep fried fishcake. As you can see, it’s full of ingredients. spicy carrots and goboard bero. M. That is good. It’s bouncy, clean tasting, and like Satoshi says, it really soaks up the flavor of the broth. Look at how it looks inside. It’s so delicious and flavorful. All right, this is the tamago or the egg. M. The creaminess of the egg yolk really goes so well with the dashi. M you know, we were kind of surprised at how much food there is to eat here. For example, this shop, Kita Inari, they specialize in a variety of inarizi, including like a what is this? Uh lamb curry in. But that’s where we’re going to go next. We actually had to reserve online for this. That’s how popular this next food is. Really excited. The next place is from a shop called Motosu. And this place is quite popular. In fact, this is not the first time we had this. We had this in the past. I think a couple of years ago, we went to Kinosaki onen. We remember that it was really, really good. And so, we ordered this online. You don’t necessarily have to order online, but you will be sure to get it if you do so. And this is the tamago pan, known as the egg bread. So, obviously, it is made with egg. And look, it’s very, very jiggly. And it’s actually quite warm. Looks like a very custody airy custera. Yeah. Looks like something you would love. Look at that. Wow. Wow. That’s like custard bread. Oh, wow. It is so light and airy. It looks like omelette. I know it does. All right. Here we go. Wow. I wouldn’t even call this a bread. It tastes nothing like bread. It really tastes like a super custardy cascella, which is like a sponge cake that Satoshi loves. So, Satoshi is going to love this a lot. It’s eggy, but in a very good way. It is so jiggly. Really, it’s kind of like almost like an omelette, but it’s like a cake. I really don’t know what to call it. Well, it’s called an egg bread, but it’s so hard to describe. I’ve never had anything like it. Quite heavy. Oh, surprise, surprise, surprise. Wow. The texture is unlike bread. And also it’s different from caster. It’s like a cream. So smooth. It’s like baked cream or something. Baked cream. Yeah. So hard to describe. It’s they say this is tamong egg bread, but it’s more like cake, but it’s different from regular cake. M. Pretty nice eggy custardy taste. Oh, love this. I was craving for a very good donuts after donuts plant has gone. I think this shop is the answer. Dambo donuts and coffee. Look at this beautiful donuts. And this size is gigantic. And we bought two. This one is from Boas. And then one more thing is cheesecake. Cheesecake sounds very unique. Ooh, I have very high expectation. I’m holding this part. The texture is very nice. M. This bounciness is the donuts I was looking for. M. This is Easter donuts. The texture. My favorite type. Nice chewiness. It’s rambo. Has a good toutness. It’s beautiful. Oh. Oh. All right. And I decided to get the cheesecake doughnut. And it looks interesting. There’s some like maybe graham crackers on top, like crumbled graham crackers. That must be maybe cream cheese on top of this yeast donut. Not what I was expecting. I was expecting this to taste like um a cheesecake, but it doesn’t taste like a cheesecake. Actually, it tastes like um literally cream cheese on top. So, it’s not sweet. Not sweet at all. I feel I feel like I um I’m kind of missing the sweetness. I I would like this a little bit sweeter. I think this would make a good breakfast just because it’s not very sweet. It’s almost like eating cream cheese on a donut like you know like you would eat a bagel. That’s what it reminds me of. The texture of the donut is really good though. I think Aabu Jubam is a hell for Shinichi because there are so many so many delicious cafe or sweet shop or something like that. What are you talking about? It is kind of a hell no. It’s heaven for me. The only thing is that if I lived here, I have a hard time deciding what to buy. Actually, one of my favorite cake shop is located in this neighborhood, the Hudson City Bakers. So good. We’re not going to go there today, though. We’re here for street food. I’m not a bread lover, but one kind of bread I love that is milk France. This is this place is cute, cozy bread shop. I write this milk France is really nice here. So they have two type milk plants. Soft type and hard type. This one is a soft type. Oh, beautiful cream. M m. The bread is nicely soft, but it’s not super soft. The between the baguette and Japanese soft bread, but I like this cream sweetness, nice milk taste, and the sweetness level is perfect for me. What I like about this particular bread is not only the cream, but the bread itself has really good wheat flavor. The more you chew, a natural sweetness comes out into your mouth and it’s really, really delicious. Mhm. Yum, yum, yum. We’re going to go to New York here in Tokyo. We’re at the New New York Club, and this is a bagel shop. It’s supposed to be the best bagels in town, according to their sign. And it’s just like New York. It’s a pretty small shop, but they have a variety of bagels, including Satoshi’s favorite, the everything bagel. For some reason, he loves the everything bagel. And we got the bagel with locks. And it looks amazing. Let me just take this out. So, we can see the surface of the everything bagel. And it’s toasted. It’s warm. So, that’s a good sign. And you got smoked salmon in there. You got onion, cream cheese, and chives. Ooh, wow. That looks really good. And that looks really good. And we were having a conversation with the lady and she says they actually make these bagels in the back right behind the store. So yeah, homemade bagels. [Music] M guys, this really is the best bagel I’ve had in Tokyo. I’m sorry. I’ve never really had a good bagel here. Really good. The texture is perfect. It’s crusty on the outside. inside has this really nice chew like a bagel should have. The combination, the balance of flavors from the smoked salmon to the cold cream cheese, the chibives, everything about this is perfect. Satoshi, I think you’re going to like this. I’m so glad we tried this place. New York Club bagels. I’m craving for very good bagels. Everything bagels since I went to New York. M. This is it. This is the bagel that I wanted to eat. This cream cheese taste cold cream cheese toasted bagel and fresh salmon. The combination fabulous. I’m very happy we found this new New York club. So, this one is a little bit away from the Azabu Juban Shengai, but still Aabu Juban. Little closer to Longi area. Yeah, it’s about a five minute walk from the showai and it’s kind of hidden away in a alley but they this place specializes in Koro. So this shop name is Lakuman Kor. They got award 7 years in a row. So this is a Wagyu Tapi Toko Kor Wagyu beef special crocket, right? This is the one that has been winning awards and we bought two. So this is snow crab premium cream crocket. Okay. It’s It’s still hot. Yes. Yeah. Looks really good. M. Oh, the potato in this one. M. This one is simply seasoned with salt, maybe a little bit of white pepper. But because it’s so simple, you can really taste the flavor of the potatoes that they’re using. They’re using danchaku potatoes from Hokkaido and you have the slight beef finishiness from the Wagyu as well. Teusha outside the panco bread crus is very light and very suak inside the pesame sauce. They made this pesame sauce in house and really creamy and nice. So we’re just going to change. I need to take a bite of the crab cream croquette. Oh wow. M. You can really taste the flavor of the snow crab. That’s like seafood chowder. The potato is so good. It’s like so pure. Yeah. So, this one is a bit more complex in flavor. A little bit saltier as well. Like really like a seafood chowder. A good seafood chowder. Whereas this one is like eating really good meat and potatoes. I really enjoyed walking auang. It’s like very good town. Yeah, me too. You know, the only reason why I came here in the past is to go to my favorite bakery for American style cakes and I have the craving. But I am so pleasantly surprised to know there are so many street food here. So much street food here. It’s just one station from Longi, but very easy to come. Not only has street food, there’s a lot of restaurants from uh casual to high-end. There’s a lot of shopping you can do here. And the showing itself is just pleasant to walk along. So, it’s really nice. Literally, you can spend the entire day here. Anyway, thank you so much for watching. Hope you enjoyed this one. 1. Adding Azabu-Juban to my January list! The croquettes alone will be worth the trek over there. I am more of a savoury guy, partial to sweets and sugary carbs but that gigantic donut looked amazing – might make room in the caloric budget for that, we’ll see!
