Chiyoda Corporation has secured a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract to develop sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facilities at Taiyo Oil’s Okinawa operations, reports biofuels international.

Under the project, Taiyo Oil plans to produce 200,000 kiloliters (kL) of SAF and renewable diesel each year using ethanol-to-jet technology. The initiative supports the Japanese government’s FY2030 SAF supply target, which aims to replace at least 5% of jet fuel emissions based on FY2019 levels.

The SAF project has been selected for funding under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s program to promote the transition toward a decarbonized, growth-oriented economic structure.

Chiyoda, drawing on its 70 years of expertise in oil and gas plant engineering, will carry out the FEED work to design and plan the SAF production facilities for implementation.
