It’s always interesting to see how well certain titles do at launch. Some you expect to do well, and then some exceed expectations. When Pokemon Legends Z-A came out two weeks ago, I expected it to do well, but I wasn’t sure how well it would do. Would it make its predecessors’ first-week sales? Would it match up to the mainline titles? How would people feel about its different spin on a Pokémon trainer’s journey? The answers were plentiful and incredible. As I reported last week, the game sold 5.8 million units in a week, and we know it’s well over that by now, one week later.

However, in a new update from Famitsu, we know that in Japan, the game is still selling quite a bit. In its second week, on the OG Nintendo Switch, it sold nearly 200K copies, which brings its total to over 1 million in just Japan, and JUST on that console. As for the Switch 2 version, it sold over 70K, bringing that console version’s sales to almost 700K. That means, should sales hold, and they likely will, the game will be a million-seller on both consoles in Japan, which is crazy to think about.

Plus, recall that the US and the UK also factor into the global sales, and if the Japanese numbers aren’t even at 2 million yet, that means over four million came from other markets, so it’ll be interesting to see future breakdowns.

To that end, it makes it clear that the “exclusivity game” is not “antiquated” as a certain rival publisher president recently said. OH, and be sure to check out my Pokemon Legends Z-A review to see how much I loved the game!
