However, before all that, Trump received a ceremonial welcome from Sanae Takaichi at the Akasaka State Guesthouse.

And people noticed a few very interesting things while he reviewed the guards during the ceremonial inspection of the guards.It starts with Sanae motioning Trump to keep moving after he stands in front of the band:

Moments later, the prime minister waits to see if he will return, but when she realizes he doesn’t, she bows in front of the two flags.
Then he finishes the loop by continuing to walk in front of her until she catches up with him and guides him the rest of the way.
Jeffrey J. Hall, a PhD university lecturer in Japan, posted on Twitter (X) that “When Japan is greeting a foreign leader, it is customary for the Japanese Prime Minister and foreign leader to stop and bow to the two flags. Trump didn’t do that. (this is a video of a proper example from last month).” Here’s the video he is referencing.
