Yeah I bought some from a market in Fujisawa. Taste essentially just like the blocks. Just add a bit at a time when cooking. It might have been because I was much younger but I added too much and had to thin it out quite a bit.

Works the same. I think it’s just extra roux shavings from the production line. I prefer it as involves less plastic waste than the standard roux packs.
Just be sure to store in a cool area unless you want roux block pillow.

Yes, tasted absolutely fine although I never got close to finishing the bag before it went out of date! Curiously it was actually the gluten free version of this I stumbled across in an Asian supermarket, but I’ve never been able to find S&B blocks without wheat in (my wife is a coeliac). No discernable difference really, in fact I think it’s slightly less “gloopy” without the gluten.
